"load balancing between the cores in a quad core Vista machine, according to the OEMs and chip vendors, is impressively good."

Seems it does.

SP1 is in the future and from what I have heard it will support up to 48 cores .

Impressive. Does Microsoft perhaps know something we don't with regards to the future of the microprocessor market? Are we in for a range of processors with that many cores in the future? If so it marks a significant departure from the grounds on which processor manufacturers are competing now (i.e. clock speed, power efficiency, cache size, etc.)

Intel now make 48 Core processor and in 2009 we can see it and microsoft will add codes for it in Vista SP1

Also intel 80 Core CPU is ready look here :

Starting to sound like "beam me up Scotty" isn't actually that far away.

Impressive, and that comment about the ram they are including sounds fantastic.

Great spotting.

its abit sick what would you use it for, plus only bill gates would be able to afford something like that

Hey all

I just bought a new gaming box with
- Intel QX6700
- 2 x 8800GTX (SLI)
- 4 GB
- Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus
- Vista Ultimate
- etc

The problem is, I don't think Vista is using the quad core processor properly. The task manager performance graph shows 1 graph only where I would expect to see 4, although 4 processors are listed in the device manager.

As a test I installed Fedora 7 on a spare drive. The Linux kernel was able to use all 4 cores without any problems so I doubt the hardware is at fault.

Any ideas?

Nope, 32 bit Vista (and 64) makes use of four cores (very well).

Hi

So only showing performance graph is normal for Vista on a multi core system?

i havnt seen anything on msdn about dloading a beta of sp1, i think its still lab beta or alpha, it was delayed until q1 08

and if u have home edition u can only use 4 cores in vista, and 4gb of ram, if u have be or ulti u can have 32 cores (it should so a 32 cpu array or a 32 core single cpu) and 64gb of ram, but only in the 64 bit os, the 32 bit will only do 4gb of ram and 8 cores

No it's not. Something is probably wrong with your Vista install.

The topic is about something different, but in my screenshot you see the 4 CPU's. I also have a QX6700
