I'm needing some input and feedback from those of you who have increased your PCI-E frequency in attempts for higher overclocks. Currently my 7800GTX hits a wall at 540/1400 with everything at stock (including Delta). I have since increased my PCI-E to 110 Mhz and it seems to have limited the artifacting I would recieve when I push the card to its limits. I've recieved mixed messages at best in reguards to increasing the PCI-E significantly to gain better stability in overclocks.

Your feedback/input is much appreciated.

So, I'm on XS and NO ONE has any input on this matter? I'm speechless.

Increase of PCI-E frequency dosent help much nVidia cards, gives a little bit of stability in OC and maybe som minimal performence gain. But thats it.
ATi cards wins more from increase of PCI-E frequency.

Interesting. I haven't heard anything like this before. Could you explain more why this is?

Hmmm.... I outta try overclocking my x850XT again. Cause I now have the PCI-E frequency bumped up to 120mhz, and that isn't even the ceiling.

I dont really know why.
But ATI card love high PCI-E frequency. On X1x00 and HD2x00 cards you can without any problem have 120mhz. Kinc bencht his HD2900XT over 140mhz in PCI-E freq.

nVidia card dont gain as much as ATI from high PCI-E freq. but it can help. I run 110mhz on my 7800GT and it helpt me to get som extra mhz from the gpu. But this is not news. With AGP you can do the same thing. I did it when i had AGP system.

What's the variable in AGP systems? The actual AGP voltage?

The problem with PCIe frequency changes is that it varies from one card to another. From one motherboard to another. However, in general you have to apply which what works for you.

Over the years I have found that overclocking videocards yields minimal returns for the risk involved. It's too easy to burn up a videocard and the only difference most will notice is with benchmarks. Personally, real use is more important to me than a couple of more geekmarks in some bench program. :p:

I'd much rather overclock the cpu and look for gaming gains there. ;)

It tends to help, but as been said it varies from one card to the next, and one motherboard to the next.

115 is generally the sweet spot from what I've read for high-end 7 series cards.

Both voltage and frequency.

I know what you mean. However I've overclocked every video card I have ever owned and haven't had a single issue to date. I don't think things really become an issue until Vmods and bios changes are made. I was really wanting to push this one just a bit further to break 10K in 3DMark05 but its just not going to happen unless I Vmod this puppy. This thing sure does game a helluva lot better than 10K in 3DMark05 though ;).

Thanks for everyone's input.
