2 Lightning strikes took out my burner and my temp sensors weren't working correctly (could have been 3414 bios, though, cause im onto 3409 now and they are just reading 10c low).

Resurrected Video card or monitor (not sure which was affected as I had to take out vid card and unplug monitor for about 8 hours).

And nearly caused myself an ulcer trying to figure out what was bad.. my hdd's, burner, northbridge, or other...

I think I might pick up an nForce 2 and video card while im getting a new burner..

I think it comes naturally to some 8-)

Gonna test the burner tomarrow in another system then in mine again if it works, and if it doesnt..... it gets shot by an AK-47.

check the cable first. we had a power surge here the other day and my PC wouldn't boot, but it turned out to be the ATA33 cable i had running to my DVD and CDRW. i have no idea how that could fry the cable.

I'll do so in the other system im gonna test it in.

Not my AK, my grandpa's. Got an M1 and a lot of other stuff around, too, hehe.

Since I live in OH, I have to run a UPS. We have the worst power grid outside of California in the entire US.

I get constant brownouts and blackouts. You wouldn't believe how many settop components I go through.

But, if you have your setup connected to one of those power surges, and ya know most say they cover up to like 25000$ right? Why not just get them to buy you a new pc? I know if anything gets fried in my pc, Im callin the power surge company asap.

We had bad lightning storms here last week, good business for the co0mputer shop I work in because loads of people then have to buy new modems, PSUs, etc.

Sorry to hear you loss but your getting good at destroying kit.

My monitor and the tv next to me just went pop!!!! The monitor had purple discoloration that went away with time, but it died a couple of monthsw later. Power outlet to router busted, as well as tv out wouldnt work on my 8500. TV did go bang while connected. Computer was fine.... thank god for that.

good tip: make sure if you buy a surge protector the company that make sit cover a certain amount value of equipment, make sure its more than what youve got conencted to it and you can claim from the comany if it fails :toast:
