View Full Version : Has anybody had high OCs with an Asus a7n8x deluxe?

I've gotten 200x12, but havent tried to go any further. Once I get my new heatsink in, Im hopin for a multiplier of 12 and up. Im pretty much screwed on my fsb. Much over 200 and its unstable as hell. Is there anything I can do to get a higher fsb? I heard something about a northbridge or maybe it was southbridge mod you could do.
Post your OC's if you have that mobo, and if you did any mods.

you're probably thinking about the VDD mod for that board. i don't believe that board has a BIOS adjustment for the northbridge.

no? i thought the rev 2.0 has vdd settings in the bios?

oh, maybe i does. i just know the olders versions didn't have it.

see, im not sure what vdd is. I thought it was something to do with the voltage. The only voltage things I can adjust are
CPU Vcore
DDR Reference Voltage
AGP VDDQ Voltage
I cant even run 2-5-2-2 timings with DDR voltage set to 1.8v from the default 1.5v.
I dont know, I wish I wouldnt have gotten this asus mobo. I just thought it was good cuz it cost a bit more than the abit and epox. :(
Have hit 2955 on a 15x multiplier but thats was not stable
and was Prometeia cooled.
saaya... nope rev 2.0 board does not have VDD in bios
as the VDD controller can't be controlled by bios, the uber bioses
going around allow a vdd setting to be shown but has no effect
but these are modded hacked bioses.
If you have big problems getting over 200 you need to do a
VDD mod there's a thread in one of the vmods forums here ;)

DDR reference voltage should be 2.5v to 2.8v.
have you tried using better cooling on the northbridge?
the A7N8X Deluxe is a good board, it's just not as suited for overclocking as the NF7-S V2.0 and the Epox 8RDA+.
vdd here..

geez, thats insane. I wish I knew anything about all that stuff, yet I dont. Any good sites for all those terms and what not? I'd say by the time I bought that equipment I could have just boughten a new mobo :)

LOL! thats the agp voltage :p:

I did not know that. Well, now Im having problems with even the multiplier. I wasnt aware the Asus wouldnt even OC with higher multipliers, I thought it was just the fsb. I could boot into windows with multiplier set to 12, so it was 200x12. And I had to set Vcore to 1.75v. And I cant even finish running 3dmark 01. Anybody know whats up? I know it isnt my temps. Right now Im idlingat 39c. Its gonna suck if I bought that slk 800a and tornado for no reason, if I cant OC any more than what I've got right now. The highest multiplier it will let me finish 3dmark 01 in is 11.5. Any higher and 3dmark crashes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

what do your voltages look like? maybe your PSU isn't supplying enough power.

Im not quite sure I know what your talking about. Maybe this is it
+12v--12.544
+5v--5.026
+3.3v--3.376
VCore--1.696
But I've lowered it to 200x11.5 now. So thats what the volts are with that OC.

your cpu needs more voltage for 12x200 apparently

yeah, sounds like saaya has the right idea.

You think if I increase it to 1.85 It'll damage any thing?
Im seriously feeling like I've went down the loser path with this pc.
Crappy mobo for ocing unless you mod some stuff
Crappy Powersupply
Crappy Card currently--just bought one.
damn, 2 of some of the most important things I've jewed myself on. My friend bought this crappy 40$ case off newegg, and it had a 400watt psu, which mine is too, and he oced his P4 2.4c to 3ghz on stock cooling. Im definitly going intel soon....

1.85v won't hurt anything as long as you've got decent cooling.
what PSU do you have?
you didn't exactly buy a CPU known for good overclocking, maybe you could pick up a XP1700 JIXHB when they are available in the US.

eh, its an Allied 400watt. Yeah I heard about that stepping. Sounds pretty sweet. Ya know when its gonna be available?

i'm not really sure. i figure someone will post when they find a place.
i'd think pretty much any good XP1700 stepping will clock higher than the bartons.

I would PM sysfailur.

ditto CVCryan, sysfailur has an A7N8X that he has taken to the limits. I loved mine I thought it was a great board, I had an early stepping on the NB and it didn't like to go above 210fsb but it was faster clock to clock than my NF7.
