View Full Version : Noise level on Prommy?

Getting very close to finally ordering a Prometia (probably the II) - since I have my wife nearly convinced. She hates the noise from my overclocked main system and wants something quieter.
I really have no reference for the noise levels on a Prommy vs. water cooled or air cooled systems...can you guys let me know when you get a chance?
Feel free to move this to phase change forum if you like.

Well I'd tell your wife its completely quite, no sound at all !!!!! :D
I've heard its very quite though and should be alot quiter than a air cooled system with alot of high cfm fans.
it still does make noise, you can't call it a quiet solution. you'll both need to place some noise dampening and use a silent fan in the prom (performance will drop a bit though!)

WxChaser,
The MachII is pretty quiet, when the fans are on low the most noise is the compressor, not bad at all.
The wife should have absolutly no problem with it, infact, she'll thinks it cool :D

Like OPP said, its just the low hum noise from the compressor much like when your refrigrator kick on.

Thanks guys.

Umm, not even sure when the Mach II will be in the US, I think it may be while.

A couple weeks ago when I talked to Tats, OPP, he said they weren't even taking pre-orders yet. Not in a huge hurry, but will order it pending availability. I'd like getting one with the Lian-Li case aka Royd Rage, pop my TurboCool 510W PSU in and be good to go.
I'm going to call him in a little while after lunch to see where they are at.

Yea I do, but it sent from Chip-con, not a reseller.

I got mine already, but i bought it in hong kong. FrozenCpu is selling them too though. There based in the us.
since you have a turbocool 510 just like mine, what i can say is that my mach2 is a lot quieter than my turbocool 510 (which has variable speed fan, it isnt one of the old noisy ones).
the rear low cfm case fan and the psu are whats making all the noise in this at the moment. other than that its almost silent, and i have the fans set faster than the "normal" setting.
i find the front fan to be silent even on full speed, the rear fan starts making noise above about 1500rpm but thats probably just my rear fan.

Tats just called - mine is on reserve. They are anticipating receiving a shipment from Chip-Con the 1st or 2nd week of July.
Trying to decide whether to go II or I and leaning towards Mach II, though Tats thought the I might be the way to go (If I could convince Bowman to convert it to R404a - god I wish).
How many of you guys are using the Proms in the supplied case, or using aluminum cases like the PC -65's, or like what Royd Rage (Tony) did?
Ewok, thanks for the feedback on the fan noise vs the Turbocool (I never hear my PSU fans over my others to be honest). I have 2 80mm intakes, a TT smartfan 2 atop the CPU, another TT 80 mm blow hole fan, another 80mm rear exhaust fan, etc, etc, in a CoolerMaster ATC201 case, it sounds like my vacuum cleaner is running especially when benching.
I am psyched, just talked to my wife and she's pretty cool about it all!

Totally offtopic, but my turbo-cool 510 just arrived yesterday. Haven't build it in yet... I ordered a wrong unit . I really wanted one with the 3 external turning knobs...little did I know that this was optional....
Paid $50 for transport, another $50 on import duties (I live in Holland) and it's not even the one I wanted....
I received an emial from Mick (from pcpowercooling) that they will have a new version of this turbo-cool in about 2 weeks from now.
So that would be around 1st July perhaps...
But Ewok, how are the voltages? Xtremely good? Do you think I would need the external voltage turning knobs.

The voltages are great on the 510, rock stable. I believe you can adjust the internal pots if you need to since you forgot to add the external pots. You'll only need the external pots if you play around with your +3.3, +5 and +12 volt rails. Otherwise you'll never notice the difference if you're not trying for higher overclocks, etc.
My PC Power and Cooling PSU is awesome, one of the best hardware purchases ever. I'm brand loyal now. It kills my old Antec PP412x to death.
Good luck, you picked the right power supply.
Now back to my thread!
