Hey folks,

Running Vista Ultimate 64 Retail on my HTPC which consists of my A64 X2 4400+, DFI Expert, 2x1G Mushkin Redlines, 8800GTS 320 and it loses internet connection daily. I have to reboot to fix the problem. I cant even log out/log in and have the problem fixed.

I am using the NF4 GB NIC as the main connection to my BEFSR V2 and use the Marvell port to serve my PS3 with a shared connection. Dont know allot about Vistas' networking but I have found it fairly simple to setup my home network around my HTPC. Just cant get this problem solved.

After the whole Nvidia debacle with the drivers, I have found Vista smooth and stable. Just starting to get pissy with this problem.

Any thoughts on what to do (except ditch Vista :D )

TIA

Turtle

I have a few sugestions for you to try.
1. Check for firmware updates on your router.
2. does your mobo have 2 nic cars in it.
If your answer to #2 is yes try the other nic port and make sure you disable the one that is not in use.
My board has 2 nics and any time i run in the top nic I have the same troubles but when I run in the bottom on I don't have any troubles at all.

I hope this helps some.

It could be that both ICS and your router are trying to dhcp on the same subnets.

Can you check that you are using ICS?
If you can it would be much better to Bridge the two nics (you can normally do this by selecting the two cards at the same time in network connections and right clicking and selecting bridge)

Yes I have ICS enabled. Do I disable ICS and bridge the connections? Basically my goal is to serve my PS3 and Xbox 360 internet and to use the media extender properties of the 360 to view my recorded T.V. from my HTPC in the bedroom.

I would just use my router to serve my 360 but no matter what I do I cannot get my HTPC/360 to extend through my router. Tried everything.

Thanks for your help guys ;)

And Rogard, that is some rediculous bandwidth you have on your speedtest.net banner LOL

By any chance does it disconnect when you remove a USB device?

Don't know why, but 50% of the time I disconnect USB devices, my network screws up, either have to reboot or disable/enable in device manager.

Nope, it usually disconnects around the smae part of the day, around 3:00 PM or so.

Very odd.

Yeah I would disable ics so that your vista machine bridges the router subnet to the ps3
