As part of our continued commitment to you, our channel partners, we are providing this e-bulletin to communicate breaking news between issues of our monthly e-newsletter, the Tigon. We know how much email we all receive, so we will only send bulletins like this one when we have important and time-sensitive information to share with you that we feel will help you market and sell AMD-based products.
Desktop Price Move Announcement
One of our main goals is to help you manage your business more efficiently by keeping you informed of changes that could affect your purchasing decisions and sales forecast. One such change will be announced on July 9th, when the AMD desktop processor family will have a reduction in suggested prices. Savings for the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 (dual-core) processor family will be about 20% and the AMD Athlon 64 (single-core) processor family will be adjusted by approximately 15%. If you are looking for a great value, look to the AMD Sempron™ processor, which will also offer savings of about 15%.
These new prices will enable you to offer your clients AMD-based desktop solutions with a true price/performance advantage at an even more competitive price. Please contact your authorized AMD distributor for specific pricing and availability details.

What's next? Buy one , get one for free ?

They will ruin themselves with this stupid goal of getting MS at any cost.

This may not be a bad idea if they have K10 coming soon, but with the news of the desktop K10 getting delayed, this is not good.

They need to sell their cpu you know. Its better to sell a lot for low ,than to stockpiling cpu because of low demand.

And what are wrong with price cuts??

This is Inded Great news:)

Pricecuts are before Intels July 22th cuts. They are forced to cut the prices, wanting it or not. AMD is strugling enough as it is with lost marketshares.

When you are already in the red.... price cuts are NOT a good thing for the company. If you value AMD in the market then this is NOT a good thing. Are you going to be happy when AMD files bankruptcy? Are you going to be happy when Intel's only competition is VIA? Now don't get me wrong.... I would love for AMD to go under, but I get REALLY annoyed at the short sightedness of people who cheer when these price cuts occur. Wake up and you'll realize that this is a VERY VERY desperate move for a company like AMD. Intel can afford to sell their CPUs at a loss..... AMD can't.

Why would you want AMD to go under? I'm an AMD fan myself and have never owned an intel PC but I would not intel to go out of business ... competition is better for every consumer and business.

The reason is simple, he works for Intel.

Right. Someone who wants a monopoly and the highest prices possible, the polar opposite of what us, the consumer wants.

We should listen to him/her, why?

I didn't say listen to him/her. But there is some truth to what he said. Cutting prices could make AMD's current finanical situation worse.

Thats quite a short sighted remark.

Just because I'm biased towards Intel doesn't mean that I don't see the bigger picture.... even more so than the people who are biased towards AMD it seems. I'm very critical of what Intel does... go look for my comments on the BS "V8" system that Intel is touting. You want to shrug my opinion off because I work at Intel.... fine, you wouldn't be the first, but I'm right most of the time. This is a BAD move for AMD. They can't continue a price war with Intel as long as they have an inferior product.... and it's looking like they'll be second string in the near future as well. They are certainly in trouble.... you CANNOT argue that and unless they pull a rabbit out of their ass with K10 then it may be fatal for them.

I'm not bias, just very pro-market, anti-monopoly. I guess I'm a possitive thinker and like to think AMD wouldn't do anything to make their finanical situation worse. I'd like to think of this as more an act to empty backstocks than any act of financial desperation.

FLG is from Intel and he is being straight with you guys.

Price cuts compound the problem when they should be delivering parts, opening new markets, deverisify to increase revenue on profitable products.

So far they have dug a very deep hole, they continuing to BS the industry and consumer when they should be up front. Now they have positioned this magic chip so that no one would want the existing parts thinking it is just around the corner and it will make the current parts inferior with such bold claims on how superior it is.

A macho penis size thing, AMD does not want to admit what is obvious to us all. They elected price cuts to sway buyers for all around lower performance parts.

I have to agree that AMD prices are already too low.
No need for more price (revenues) cuts.

Is AMD BSing us all by making us wait this long for a magic chip? Yes.

But then again...had the X2 3600+ (many of which oc to 2.8ghz+) never been dropped to as low as it is, so soon after release...the E2140 and E2160...that will revolutionize the budget market for oem builders...would never have existed.

Don't you see that behind the "classical" conroe, there is the penryn.
You look history and believe that amd will survive but, you miss the increase of fab cost and as AMD can't outsource more than 20%, this isn't good.
At least I believe ATI could survive but AMD will probably die if there is no K10 miracle and no wonderful R600 revision. When Intel will be alone, that will not be good... (except for stocks...) but enjoy during few months, you will save 10$ buing an AMD

10$ or 10% ????

more than 10%...

But that isn't the point. The point is I don't believe they sale a lot of X2 6000+ but semprons, single core and low cost X2. So this is few dollars for us but millions $ for amd...
