Title says it all... I have searched and I didn't find anything clear enough to call my search a success.
is it a 12v or 220/110v unit?
if it's 12V.. you need to put +12 and gnd on the compressor directly as for fan.
if it's 110/220v you need to put it direct to wall socket with a powerswitch.

It is 110/220. So just connect the compressor to ac?

Hold on Ill get you a link of how I wired up my mach II
yes it is, but use a switch on cable 'cause otherwise you risk to damage the compressor 'cause the ac plug and sockel isn't ment to be used for switching stuff on and off.. especilly not highconsuming stuff like compressors. you also risk to hurt your self if you have bad luck.

Thanks for the link. Is there some sort of fuse block I should get? Preferably one from Home Depot or Lowes... I was looking @ Home Depot earlier and I could only find a 32v slow blow, but I didn't find a fuse holder. Maybe Radio Shack?

Is there a way to throttle the compressor so you don't have to run it full blast. Like a dimmer or something. I know on some stuff you can use them and others you cannot. Is a compressor one of them?

If it's a AC current compressor it meant to run full rated power On or Off only usually +/- 5% of rated voltage. be sure correct voltage and HZ(hertz)
DC compressors can run on a rheostat.
AC power compressors can also be slowed but with a expensive control,we won't go there.just made that statement so you are aware.
and check for capacitors in the circuit, I never seen one in person.
need to learn electricity 101. Never Never Guess, current can kill you.
Always work safe.

Just a question, through what means are AC motors controlled? I can't find it on Google...I'm assuming its PWM but that might have its own problems esp. because there's that start capacitor.

single phase AC motors are generally on or off if they are 2,3 or 4 speed they will have a different lead(wire) for each speed and externally switched.
AC compressors are on or off, Below is a wiring digram that cover 3 types by using the parts you need depending on voltage and starting components, if any
S/C/R those are the 3 terminals on the compressor . They will be marked on compressor or on the cover.

here is some good info on how to start your compressor scroll down a little and you will see howto :yepp:
Thanks to Mg for supplying me this a little while ago when i needed it.

Oh and that link I posted of me with the mach II , I didnt use a fuse because I couldnt get one at the time
I HIGHLY reccomend using the fuse
Im running mine for very short periods of time so theres a very small chance there will be a power surge or something

Pulse Width Modulation.
Hold on a minute, you said compressors are generally on or off. You said there are controllers but they're very expensive. Can I see the circuit? You said you can't just hook up a transformer and be done with it, and I don't think pulse width modulation will work so...?
