View Full Version : New phaser
Hello too the largest collection of phasers on the interweb:wave:
I've built my first SS under the guidance of a few members here (NoL & Brett :toast: ) and its been reasonably successful.
Couldn't have done it without the help of the guides and posts here so id thought id introduce myself!

Welcome to XS :welcome:
Here's some images for you. Idle is pretty much all I've got atm as now ive actualy got a load too tune it with my R290 has been kidnapped.

Very nice ham. :)
Welcome to XS.
looks good, do you use steel flexhose or is it copper pipe?

Welcome to XS. Looks pretty nice. You said the condenser is a WACC radiator? I'm not familiar with that one, but it look like a good one. Where did you buy it?
WACC (Wet and Chilly chips) was a British water cooling company that went under a while ago. I found this on thewatercoolingshop's clearance section, picked it up for £15. Coupled with the 38x120mm 240v paspt i have on there it keeps the sub cooling well within acceptable range. /me hopes that terminology was right...
I think johann used a few on his builds.

Its a steel hose.

*sigh* lol
Well my new thermometer has arrived. Bout bleeding time (7 days too come after paying £6 delivery!).
Got a quick question though. While tuning for load (going too be tuned on a prescott with as much voltage as my IS7 will give going through it) What about pressures?
As you can see i had circa 200PSI idle on the high side, won't adding extra gas + heat shoot up the pressures overall? Was a bit worried about 200psi of propane, don't really want more...
Also how hot is a compressor supposed too get?

If you add more gas when tuning, then your pressures will rise and also the compressor temperature. I would say no more than about 15bar (ish) for a single-stage. If it's just a benching unit then I don't suppose there would be anything wrong with even more pressure, providing you have pressure tested the unit quite high.
The compressors can reach 100°c + and still work fine :).
Well im a combination of disappointed and confused atm. Ive just attempted to re-charged my unit and tune for load.
For some reason (prob the one below) i couldn't get my high side over 150psi. I think this hindered a fair bit. But i continued too load it up with the Prescott. managed only:

Under a full orthos load.
I have a feeling that my problem is that the reg ive got on the propane is utter ****. I cant put positive pressure into the lowside...
Parts to fab up a new one are on their way though.
Is 90-100psi normal for an R290 static charge:confused:

Your using a regulator out of the propane bottle? Why not straight? Your going to need to put alot in to get the condensing pressure up. Do you have ice to the compressor?
Hard to guess static, without things ilke temperature and such.
The parts ive ordered will let me use it straight. Bit of a rip though, £2.22 for the POL connector and then 78p for the valve. Then bleeding £6 postage:mad: .
No ice too the compressor due too the stupidly long suction line, just a bit of condensation on the point i use too check.
From memory temps on the condenser were 45°C in and 25°C out. Idle was about 30°C.
What other temps you need too take a guess?
Cheers:)

cost me 10 bucks buss fare included to make an adaptor from the propane to gauge set. Why did you need to order such fittings when most are readily available?
Either way still pretty cheap, no matter what, if you want it, it will cost one way or the other.

Ham that method I told you about with the POL connector is probably the cheapest way of doing it (and the easiest)! I have 2 or 3 knocking around in the garage.
It's just BES that charge about £6 P+P for orders below £50 that make it look expensive (when u buy cheap stuff). But to be honest if you bought a heap load of copper tube (weighing a lot) it would still only cost £6 P+P :p: .
@ Xeon - The fitting he will be using is just a brass propane bottle nut with a small extension. You braze an access valve into one end and it works a charm ;) very neat too.
EDIT: Made like this :)

Ah same thing only I bolted on a femal NPT to 1/4 sae flare adapter on it.
The parts for my connector have finaly arrived. About too go braze it up.
I think ive got a leak however:doh:
Is there anything i can smear over the area i think is leaking that will bubble up without having too buy anything. Of course i want too do this safely though...
Currently vaccing out my R290 so when i try and fix the leak i don't die.

One of them wasn't done by me, and the other I did before I got oxy/fuel kit ;) .
Give me one now i'd braze it far neater :).
Oh and btw the 2nd one which I did I put the wrong flare fitting on so most of it hand to be ground off with a grinder so I could get the POL nut over the top to screw into the bottles. There is also quite a gap between the 1/4" tube and the BSP outlet fitting on the brass, so it isn't really that easy to get a smooth even finish all round.
