Hi all! I'm hoping for a few ideas from you experienced phase builders. Have been working on a case for a SS Direct Die set-up. Keep running up against noise polution problems with high CFM fans. Best size fans to fit in case and cool condensors seem to be high CFM 120mm units. If you go with lower CFM units for noise control, you lose out on wattage dissapation/capacity of system. Add to that noise of compressor,PS,case, and Vid card fans and noise quickly scales out of control.

Have seen several water chiller setups and cascades where builder used plate heat exchangers or tube type. If a separate water circuit were incorporated (external), could a heat exchanger be used as a condensor?

Heater core for a Dodge 71' B200 van is approx 9.75"x9.5"X2.5". 250mm Fan at Frozen CPU has a 9.825" square footprint and only generates 21 db at 100 CFM. If a separate water circuit were made with these and a high flow/pressure water pump, all phase components could still be housed in PC case, with only added fan for phase setup being one low CFM 120mm for compressor cooling. Heck, water cooling circuit could even be built integral to MDF computer desk.

Can an HX work this way? What type would be low restriction to water circuit? Seems most of you are building high end SS units for 250+ loads. Will an HX have this much capacity?

placement of fans(as far internal as possible), insulated duct (for sound absorbtion)with turning vanes and at leat 1 90 degree bend. be careful bends can cause a lot of friction( Loss of CFM) if not vaned correctly.

turns do not allow sound waves a direct way out, thus controlling noise.

Got to to go mow grass now

Thanks for reply,WDRZAL!
Not sure I understand. Your saying go with standard setup, fan on backside of condensor, use soundproofing on duct, and turn airflow sideways(vent out sides of case)? Don't think I have room for duct (1/3 HP Compressor, 4 row condensor, fan, plus control circuit. Thought I could use a similar size or more compact HX instead of condensor, and cool externally with water circuit.
Question still stands, can an HX be used as a condensor in this way?

Well no one has done one the way I would design one....... yet.

If this is your first build follow a previous build that you know works, plenty of threads in the archives.

There are a lot of skills needed if this is your first.

You ask how to quite fan noise ,so I answered how I would do it simply.there are other ways like creating opposite frequency's to cancel the noise out, thats pretty advanced electronics..... noise cancellation

in order to directly answer your question, yes plate/tube heat exchangers can be used as a condenser at which you can move the radiator away or outside to reduce noise
