Hi to everyone!
I write from Italy and have a serious problem in using my brand new XFX 8800Ultra.
My sistem is made of an ASUS P5B-VM motherboard, 2x1Gb Kingmax DDR2-800MHz, Audigy2-ZS, Raptor 150Gb and Samsung 500Gb, all managed by Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.

I have changed my graphic card from an XFX 8800GTX to a XFX 8800Ultra, and I realized that the 3DMakr06 scrores are too quite similar to the ones I made with my old GTX card.
The last I mad was even with a lower score then the one I used to have with the GTX.

Here is the 3DMark2006 score screenshot:

Reading to the exported 3DMark06 EXCEL file I have noticed this:

VGA Memory Clock 378 MHz
VGA Core Clock 108 MHz

Here is the screenshot of the Online ResaultBorwser on Futuremark website.
Look at the graphic card info:

I was told by a friend to check the vga desriptor with some unix live cd using the console command "lspci". Here is what I got using an old Knoppix 5.1 DVD:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0194 (rev a2)

I have also noticed that at computer bootup there is no XFX 8800Ultra info on the upper left of the screen right before the motherboard logo, like it was for my old XFX 8800GTX. Is this normal??

Could it be only a matter of bad installed drivers??
Yesterday I have tried to install the ForceWare 158.18 last drivers, but with no success.
After a few tries I realized that the very last 158.18 where from May and not April like the ones I was trying.
I have noticed that mine didn't support the 8800Ultra graphic card.
So I download the 158.18 drivers again and finally installed the NVidia ForceWare drivers successfuly.

After a few benchmarks, I noticed the problem I show up here, so I tried to reinstall the drivers. After that I got a BSOD.
So I tried to go backwords.
I realized that while waiting for the 8800Ultra I installed the drivers for my integrated graphic card, and when the Ultra card arrived I installed it without uninstanning them.
So I uinstalled everything and decided to reinstall only the ForeWare drivers, but this time the last 158.43 BETA drivers.
After that the problem show up here still exists, but I didn't have any BSOD until this mornig when I turned on my computer.
Here is the BSOD error message I god when returning in WIndows:

In the Device Manager and in 3DMark06 and 3DMark05 I see the correct info of the graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra
Only in the two 3DMarks I get bad frequencies (related to the EVEREST Sidebar panel):

I have to say also that in Windows Photo Gallery I see brown filtered images, thing that I solved with my old XFX 8800GTX following this method (and that I am not able anymore with the 8800Ultra): http://www.tabletquestions.com/windows-media/55252-windows-photo-gallery-suspiciously-brown.html

So I finally opted to check SistoftSandra and EVEREST and the registry.

Registry entries

Now.... what can it be?? Do I have the registry mismatch the correct entries for the default NVIDIA driver?????

Thank you for everything.

Return it. Ultras are just rebaged GTXs. Get a GTX, WC it, and clock it higher than the ultra. Win win situation.

I come from a 8800GTX.......
I changed because I don't overclock at all!! I have a SFF and hate heat!! :)
8800Ultra have better stock cooling, and infact I have now lower temps then with the GTX.

IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE HELP

Does anyone here have Windows Vista with an NVIDIA 8800 Ultra???

If so, can someone please check 3DMark2006 and the registry and tell me what do you have in the locations I show with the arrows???

You hate heat and youre using a high end card??
Well anyway, as for the Ultra having a better heatsink and thusly cooler temps, think about what that means. If the heatsink is removing more heat from the core, the heatsink has more heat to pass on to the air. aka in your case, rasing ambient temps.

Of course that...... but ambient temp its better to manage. :)

Anyway... can you tell me what do you have in the registry with your 8800GTX??

Thank you. :)

The Clock and core speed reporting the wrong frequencies is normal for 3DMark 06 in fact if you do a compare in 3DMark06 you will see all the other 8800's are reporting the wrong freq's. My screenie shows 108/337 Mhz when it's actually at 630/1086 x2. So no worries.:)
