Yesterday I felt nice seeing the labs getting empty, and the products to be reviewed list getting smaller and smaller for this week...
Think again! The FedEx boy brought me some OCZ goodies today :yepp:
And during this week more products will be added to the list ( Mushkin RL XP2-8000, TeamGroup 1200 5-5-5-15, some DFI & eVGA boards, etc... )

Like a real memory addict, I can't stop myself from putting the new puppies on the bench for a quick ride ( with the excuse of Max FSB testing for a new CPU as well ) :ROTF:

So, lets see what the Reaper HPC 9200 can do :D

Reserved for the very first OC attempts at 5-5-5-15 on the Commando.

First quickie, after a necessary BIOS re-flash as the previous setup went crazy, hiding normal options, and was asking for password even after clearing the inexistent password :D.

First try, might be giving them more voltage than they actually need, like I said, first test, boot to regular windows, just went with a "safe" 2.275Vddr for DDR2-1200 5-5-5-15 attempt.

CPU frequency is 3,6GHz ( 400MHz x 9 Multi ), didn't disable EIST :D

Hi BenchZowner, I don't suppose you have a Asus P5K Deluxe to test the OCZ 9200 Reapers on? :) would love to see some results. . .

I have a P5K sitting here and will be doing some testing soon. Should be a nice test rig.

Let us know how it does for you.

Some more quick tests.
I'll probably pause the testing for some days, I need to test 4 PSUs for a 'review' first, and then back into memory testing for a big roundup :yepp:

Real Vddr was 2.63V
Short 10 minutes testing, gotta keep them in good shape for the review ( and then...extreme clocking attempts :D )

These look very nice. Im in the market for more memory, and im kinda stuck between these and the Ballistix PC8500. Not a huge difference in price atm. Anyone got any opinions in to which is the best bet?

Hey Nordling,

What was the highest memory clock you aquired using 4 sticks of ram? I'm guessing the results you posted above were for 2 sticks?

BenchZowner
05-30-2007, 11:56 AM
His tests were done with 2 sticks ( 2*1GB DIMMS )

Nelly

His tests were done with 2 sticks ( 2*1GB DIMMS )H'mm would be nice to see how 4 sticks can cope with the P5K Deluxe memory controller, the Crucial 8500's seem to do well, so the question is can the OCZ 9200's compete in a 4 stick configuration in comparison?

andyOCZ

I'll see about getting another kit for 4 stick testing of the 8500 Reaper on my P35 board next week. I tried to get 9200 (and 9600) Reaper kits and they were all spoken for. :( Maybe soon!

Oh by the way, there's already no warranty for me, they're review samples :rofl:I'm quite surprised you don't have a OCZ ModXStream 780w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 PSU to review, they are available in the UK now as well as the OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 PSU.

I don't understand how any companys can get away with stating the word "silent" when I see many reviews stating this isn't the case, sorry to go off topic - I'm referring to the the OCZ ProXStream 1000w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 PSU as an example but can't expect much with it being an 80cm fan, the price is excellent though for what you get.

If it's already available in the UK, the reviews should've been out already for some time, so no need for another one.
FedEx lost two packages of mine in the previous weeks, so who knows what was in there :D

Well, the unit I have here ( ProXstream 1000W ) doesn't include the word silent in its name on the box, but it's not what I'd call silent.
I was about to check my noise measurements, but... I can't seem to find my notes ( damn I'll have to re-do the measurements! ).
But noise isn't always a matter, especially when we're talking about mostly 'bench' equipment.

On the other side I'd like to check the 'gamers' choice, the GameXstream 1010W, but my unit was DOA ( gonna check if it's fixable later on ).
That one should be kinda silent ;)

Hehe cool, yeah the Ocz 780w ModXstream has only been available here for about 2 days - I thought a review site or two would have been given them by now.

Any idea which type of Micro D9 chip that OCZ PC8500 HPC Reaper has?

BenchZowner
05-31-2007, 11:57 PM
Most ( if not all ) are D9GMH ( will have to confirm that though when sb is online ;) )

Very nice Nordling, what's vmem? Did you boot at these 3-3-3-5 timings or you select it from memset?

Nordling
06-06-2007, 10:53 PM
Dekara
Vmem = 2,5V
Boot on 455 3-3-3-5-3, full stable on 455 3-3-3-5 Vmem 2,48 (multimeter)

I started testing some DDR2 kits for another roundup yesterday.
The Reaper HPC 9200 stopped at DDR2-1240 ( tCL=5, tRCD=5, tRP=5, tRAS=18, tWR=2, tRRD=5, tRTP=4, tRFC=25, tWTR=10, tWTP=10 ) as far as 'default' timings ( 5-5-5-18 ) go.
That's with dual Pi32M & 40 test5 passes in memtest86+

@Andy:
The sample that I've got here shows up as 5-5-5-15 @ SPD, while the sticker on the mems is indicating defaults at 5-5-5-18.
I assume that the sticker timings are the final ( retail ) ones, right ? [ 5-5-5-18 stated as well at the ocz product page ]

how much VDIMM was needed to get 600MHz on this RAM?

It's nothing standard, it depends on your luck ( your DIMMs actually ) and timings used.
Your sticks might not reach DDR2-1200 at all, maybe they'll surpass DDR2-1250+...you never know, unless you try.

Some can do DDR2-1200 4-4-4-12 @ 2.4V, some might require 2.5V for these settings, others higher and others won't reach that frequency/timing set no matter what.

I'm kinda choosing between the 9200 Reapers vs the 8500 Ballistix.

Very nice and volt-loving [scales all the way up] RAM :).

From today:
678 1M 4-4-4-12 single (boot @ CL4 of course) @ 3,375V [max @ BIOS ;)]
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5678/6781mwi3.png
max valid 694,5 CL4: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=259812

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/7918/500cl3kc1.jpg
500 3-3-3-4 dual with X38 @ 3,2V [no setfsb, no memset]

1200 5-5-5-15 1M @ 2,05V [no screen], unfortunately my Commando can go higher than ~680 dual or ~720 single so it limits the CL5 results :)

Hey andy! good to see you post here :)
Yeah the p5k is a great board, no probs with it whatsoever, well besides the crappy mem ocing but thats the p35 mem controller for ya :/

man i wish there was a 680/p35 hybrid... rock solid like p35 and ocing like 680 :D

nice results bill! :toast:

Like max 500ish fsb what's so frequent for 680 boards? :Dwell the only good thing about the 680 is... its clocking mem like crazy... thats it really...

its expensive
its hot
its bugged with coldboot issues
its bugged with hotboot issues
its memory dividers are bugged
its unlinked memory mode is bugged
it doesnt clock the fsb well
its dieing all of the sudden

but damn it clocks mem nice... if you manage to get it working for 5mins

Saaya I completely agree with you in my opinion too 680i is a nightmare.

The sample I had in my hands was able to di DDR2-1200 4-4-4-12 with 2.45v with Asus P5K-E.
The kit was not able to reach very high frequency (max was DDR2-1296) but is was able to work with very tight timings (here you can found a very detaled review http://www.nexthardware.com/recensioni/scheda/47.htm).

I hate to resurrect such an old thread but has anyone bought any of this recently? I just picked up a pair from Newegg and thought I'd check them out.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227196

It doesn't look like they use D9GMH anymore but I'm hoping they're decent for a cheap machine I'm putting together.
