if so how do i go about overclocking my ram to squeeze a bit more performance out if it.

Hello first memory heat sinks are not alway needed they come stock on most all high end memory as a sort of substitute for a fan. The best mem cooling short of crazy water cooling stuff is just a fan blowing over the memory. To oc memory you have to options. Raising the memory's mhz or changing timings. Getting a few more mhz is easy just do that by raising your fsb for your cpu. Raise it up a few maybe 5 mhz and then run memtest. Do at after each increase to make sure its stable. Timing well those can be very complicated but give you a very noticeable speed difference. The timing to try to have low is the CAS if thats at 3 or 2.5 try to get it down to just 2. if you cant do that and keep memtest passing trying adding .1 volts to mem voltage.

I advise you determine what ICs you have so you know how to treat them. :)

Memtest doesn't catch memory errors. I can pass a 6+ hour memtest at DDR650, 2.5-3-3-7-1T...but theres no way that it would run stable in windows. Won't even boot...
It sounds like you have some cheap value RAM...if that is the case, overclocking it would be fun haha, but it most likely won't clock very well at all. More of a learning experience than anything.

breakfromyou - Might be you were memory controller or chipset limited. Memtst is pretty good at catching errors, but not so good at chipset/controller errors.
