Ok, the other day, I was sorting out one of the kids PCs.
Its an MSI Neo2 with an AMD x2-3800 @ 2.5 and has an XFX 6800GT.
Now, this is an AGP Mobo... Could be the decider here as I already have the GFX. Its also got 1GB RAM... DDR obviously.
Right, thats the System.
Onfortunately, the other day, when stripping it down to give it, its yearly service, I somehow managed to stand on the CPU, crushing it totally... I managed to straighten up like 50 or 60 or so pins ( not counted, probably half that ) before the next one broke?
So, I dumped an Opteron 144 in there instead.
Thats doing a lovely job, but I want it back to DC again.
Now... I have a few other little bits around the room.
1 - An Abit SG95 Mobo unused and unopened.
2 - I got 4 x 512MB Geil 6400
3 - I got got 2 x 512MB Corsair 6400
So, plenty of RAM, it has 2 slots so it will go to a gig for sure... Probbaly going to get 2x1GB though due to the prices being ridiculously low.
Now, My choices are simple...
Im looking at the new breed of conroe...
The lower end of the scale mind you, cos its only for an 8 year old.
What are they like? - I mean compared to the AMD 3800 that is?
I know they got 1MB Cache instead of 2 or 4 of the bigger C2Ds but CMON! - they are so cheap.
Has anyone actually done a 1MB SuperPI on one of these?
Im not going to be clocking it at all.
Just considering my options before I spend anything?
