I've read some thread here about tweaks for 3dmark and it looks like to me that some people changes the settings between two test (like car race and draghotic) i'd like to know how is it possible? And would i gain more points doing so?
I'm at 15.5k and i'd like to break 16k

Just select car low, test max clocks and do so for every test.
I once even used different LOD for each test...
Just select them seperately, as long as 3DMark is open, the score will stay ;)
Nature gave me higher memory, and car lo & hi got me higher cores... it's just testing, A LOT :D

And at the end it will give me the total score?
I can bench at a higher clock for the first three but it's bugging in nature

also with your vid card imo run Nature first ;)

Ok i will
But can you explain me what that could change?
One last question : can i run the test several times and only keep the faster run?

you can't keep the _faster_ run, only the last. Though if you think that you can push your score a bit higher if you'll run any test once more, then save your project and then try to re-run. That's will be a guarantee that you will keep at least your first score. Then, if you scored better, then save it and try again. I've get about 100-150 marks with this trick, just playing with highest possible clocks for nature. My card can work at 492/382 in Car & Lobby, 484/382 in Drago and only 472/375 in Nature, but it was quite long task to find that clocks - before using this "Save & Re-run" strategy i was afraid of running nature higher than 465/373 :).

Welcome to Xtreme Alt-F13
What you've described in the last part is my problem now. I'll try to bench again and see if i can gain some more points

Ive found thta if i run 3dmark say 10 times each time the score will decrease, seems to be the first thats always the fastest

I found that either but i don't know why it would do this

Well, they really decrease in general, but sometimes you just have "unlucky" run and i.e. Car Chase Hi is worse than normal. Rerunning it will help.

reboot, defrag, and then your scores should not decrease. for some reason the scores decrease after each run, but a reboot and defrag will fix that.

It takes hours to defrag my drive (i'm actually looking for a small HDD for benching). Reboot resolves the problem but sometimes you don't want to reboot

Yep, i saw him in forum.ixbt.com (biggest russian hardware forum) in 3DMark2k1 thread... You may check this thread with online translator: http://forum.ixbt.com/0010/021783-158.html. Just the cites from his messages (i translated it in english):
09.06.2003 21:29
"I've bought today:
Pentium 4 3200 MHz FSB 800MHz
Asus P4C800 Deluxe
2048 mb PC3500 DDR433
Radeon 9800 Pro 256 mb DDR2
And Squeeze 20765 points!!!!! Is it normal???
Video clocks - 417/718 MHz"
10.06.2003 20:21
"I've got a new result:
(CPU overclocked from 3200 to 3600)
21913 points!!!"
10.06.2003 22:01
" How to get in Top50 for 3DMark 2001???
Last overclock for today:
CPU - 3750
Memory - max synchro. overclock (artifacting if it goes higher)
23453 points.
P.S. What is the record for today??? How far i have to overclock my system???"
At that time he mailed me (i'm working on a russian 3dmark ranking - team.3dmark.ru) and asked to add his result of 21900 to the database and promise to mail me screenshot a day later. Of course, i didn't add him:)
And then, 11.06.2003 21:30, after a lot of sceptical posts about his result, we've got this:
"Sorry for my lie, but i don't have such rig
I just want to buy it!!!
Now i have:
Athlon XP 1000 / 128 mb DDR PC2100 / GeForce 2 MX400 (200/345 MHz)
3DMark 2001 - 3256
And will buy:
Pentium 4 3200 MHz FSB 800 MHz
2048mb PC3500
Asus P4C800 Deluxe
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
Is it OK???????????
What configuration do you propose for maximum result in 3dMark2001?"
And a bit later:
"Is PC3700 already in stock? Where??? I'm from Moscow. And i'll buy watercooling (for CPU and vidcard)!
Is GeForce FX 5900 Ultra OK??? Wanna overclock it too!
I need such system to set a new world record for 3DMark 2001!!! I dream about it for long time!
What do you think of this, is it will be a record? Aye, and what watercooling do you propose."
Then there a lot of posts about "What is Prometeia", "How does Oppainter cool his system" (we show him a link for his result in ORB) and so on... And the last one about his "new system": here in Russia we don't have any phase-change systems in stock anywhere. Our company is working with Asetek, but we still waiting for first shipment. So he couldn't buy them even if he really wants it...
