I need recommendation for new mouse pad for logitech MX laser mouse.
I like slick surface mouse pad. Is the icemat safe to use? I am concerned that it will shatter if it is dropped on the ground.

func industries.. its all they make! .. its the one I bought after doing alot of reading. I have yet to see a definitive review showing ANY mousepad performance scales.. I really didnt even know what to look for when I started looking but the func is made for low sensitivity players and thats what I use in fps games...

I am concern about icemat durability. Is it prone to breakage?

func is not glass and its not really smooth .. its a strange rough bumpy surface that glides perfectly.. its quite odd but when i first used it i had to drop my sensitivity from like 3 to 1...

^^^ Func is by far the best pad i've ever used. And i've owned a lot. This one is 2 years old and still flawless, as are the skates on the underside of my mouse.

A steelpad 5L isn't made from steel. (http://www.steelseries.com/products/steelpad/steelpad_5l) Oh and I have ordered one, but it will take a while before it's here because of the unavailability of another product in my order. So I might be able to tell more about this mousepad in a while.

What do you mean by the terms " low sensitivity players"? Can you elaborate it?
What do you mean by the terms " low sensitivity players"? Can you elaborate it? He probably means those who have mice that have low to regular dpi speeds (e.g. 800 dpi & below).

I have my dpi set to 1800 on my mouse that I started using.. razer deathadder.. but I have my sensitivity set super low.. with 0 acceleration and no settings like that adjusted.. if it was at normal sensitivity the slightest bump would send the curser a mile wide... most good fps shooters use a low sensitivity because it allows you to move the mouse ALOt without it responding... so the slightest bump doesnt cause your movement to be jarred.. in game play this means that say youre sniping.. the sniper rifle and crosshair holds steady until you do more aggresive movement.. it takes out the human factor such as a gittery hand or bascically normal hand tension... so when you are just holding the mouse in your hand its not moving up and down.. its normally important to pair this with on the fly sensitivty control so you can bump it up in close quarter combat but I find that you can learn to compensate for this naturally and your hands start sweeping wider so that you can make larger movements with the mouse...
in short.. low sensitivity means better more accurate sniping or in general more accurate shooting because its you accurately lining up the crosshair with the enemy instead of your hands getting in the way and causing it to shake.
I doubt any good fps gamer could use a high sensitivity and be accurate at the same time.
It has nothing to do with dpi..
to quote a few things..
http://www.func.net/support/index.html
Sensitivity:
Adjusting your mouse sensitivity is the most important aspect of making sure you get the most out of your new sUrface1030. There are multiple factors to take into consideration and we highly advise that you take 10-15 minutes to play with the various settings and fine tune them to your preference.
A change in mouse surface can dramatically change your mouse movement sensitivity and therefore the interaction with your computer. The first settings to adjust are your Windows/Mac mouse sensitivity settings, and depending on the brand of mouse you use you will most often have 2 primary settings for adjusting sensitivity; a general sensitivity/speed setting, and an acceleration setting. The sensitivity setting adjusts how quickly the mouse cursor will respond to mouse movements in general. The acceleration setting increases the response from the mouse when making fast mouse movements.
In general we find that the most effective sensitivity for gaming is achieved when no acceleration is used and we suggest starting out with acceleration turned off. This allows for a more direct hand-eye movement correlation when mousing, and should produce more natural and consistent movements.
While acceleration is not necessary, and in some cases can make the mouse difficult to control, some people find it useful for maintaining a lower general sensitivity setting allowing for more precise movements in a small area, while not sacrificing the ability to move quickly over a large area when needed. One example of this would be in a First Person Shooter title when needing to maintain a high level of accuracy with a low sensitivity, yet allowing for quicker 180 degree turns with the acceleration setting. A second example would be professionals wanting precise control in graphic/design applications, while maintaining the ability to move across a large screen quickly between toolbars and menus. Again, depending on your hardware this type of balance can also be achieved without enabling acceleration and you should test the different settings to find what functions best for you. Additional sensitivity settings are often included within games and you should check these settings when first running the game with your new sUrface1030. In general a lower sensitivity will increase your accuracy and precision, while a high sensitivity can allow for faster movement and mobility. If you have trouble aiming/targeting try lowering your sensitivity and acceleration settings. Similarly if you find you are having to pick up the mouse a lot to turn and/or move try increasing your sensitivity slightly until you find a good balance.
We highly recommend you repeat these steps after installing a new mouse as all mice can react differently.
Mouse Feet:
A mouse has what is often referred to as feet that are pieces of plastic or Teflon on the bottom of the mouse to help it move properly. Residue can sometimes build up onto these feet and create drag affecting the performance of your mouse. Wipe off the mouse feet with your finger or a cloth to ensure they remain smooth and provide consistent movement. Use a lightly dampened cloth for cleaning heavy build up, taking care not to get any other portion of the mouse wet. This step is often overlooked in maintaining your mouse and can provide a quick improvement. If you experience excessive drag or friction from your mouse the Teflon feet may have worn away causing the hard plastic to come in contact with the mousing surface. If this occurs you may want to replace the mouse or look into replacement mouse feet. Products such as LIQUID anti-friction treatment by Func Industries can also be used to reduce friction between your mouse feet and mousing surface.
and to quote a few things fromt this article again...

The DeathAdder is aimed at low sensitivity gamers, that is gamers who prefer to sweep the mouse a long way for any kind of movement. To accomplish this Razer are using a new, third generation, infra-red, optical sensor that they claim "eliminates skipping and negative acceleration". I'm very glad to see that Razer do understand the real problems that a gaming mouse can have.
I was skeptical after using a logitech g5 for well over the past 6 months..I got the new mouse pad.. then I got the razer deathadder.. these are my actual game scores...

oh and I know I have been braggin up the razer deathader after reading that article but.. it really is true
Razer have claimed that this mouse is designed for low sensitivity gamers. It is true that the good performance at high speeds makes this great for gamers that prefer low sens. However with 1800 dpi, this mouse is an all-round winner and perfect for those that use very high sensitivity too.

and just using the mouse on my desktop which is rather smooth does not AT ALL yeild the same result as it does combined with a great mouse pad. I cant compare it to the razer product mouse pad because I bought the pad before the mouse but I can say its a great pad and a great mouse ... after years and years and years of gaming.. a measurable achievement by both.

I bought the steel 5L pad which has color graphic on it. I didn't buy the Xtrac pad because it look like the old fashion pad with plastic top. The price of that thing was expensive for piece of plastic.
I rejected the plain steel black pad because its surface has thick weave cloth. I chose the steel 5L because it had plastic coating on the cloth surface and thick non-stick plastic base.

I just didn't realise how big these mousemats mentioned are! lol.
Based on size, and other recommendations, I went for the SteelSeries S&S Solo, and the glove of course:

I guess, it's different with different people, I'll report how it is regardless. Thanks guys!
