So my computer, normally 8 * 400, is now on all defaults. Any thing above this seems to freeze under the slightest bit of 100% load, which normally means anywhere from 30sec - 1 min in Orthos. It then requires a cmos reset to work again. At first I blamed the ram, but I'm not so sure now. I know the best method would be to test with another part, but I don't have any extras and it could be up to 2 weeks to swap ram.
Any help would be much appreciated.

mmm sort of the same thing happened to me with my P5W , my NB was dying went from 400FSB to 300 in a few months. Later on I needed to add extra voltage to get it running stable at stock speeds, so I RMA'd it...
Can you remove the mod without it being detected ?

why dont you run memtest and find out if your ram is causing the instablility.

Bail, how many passes should I run? The full test? I ran it a bit ago, and it wasn't until I hit Escape did it lock up.

run test #5 and let it run for 4-8 hrs.
