Hi, I have an ASUS P5B mb with an intel core duo.
The power supply is a silverstone 650W zeuss that was previously working in an dual opteron system.
The system burn in for 24 hours fine and then I set it up for my ex(I should know better...)
All of a sudden it started to randomly shutdown. i.e. power goes off. The thing is after 2 seconds it restarts itself. Once it starts, then it continujes to do this even before boot.
Thus it is not windows.
The first thing I did was to check if the board was shorting in the case. I touched it lightly and boom, it powered off and restarted. Ok, I next took out the screws, and put on insulators. Now it still did it, but it seemed that you had to press much harder on the board.
I now have it on the bench, and flexing the board seems to case it to shutoff.
To rule out the power supply, I changed it for another.
Within one minute, it did the same thing.
But only once. Now I can't get it to fail atall, with no amound of flexing.
It is currently on the bench, with nothing except the power supply connected.
Ok, so there appears to be an intermittant problem with some component on the board. It is not necessarily related to the flexing since it no longer seems to do it.
Since I had the same thing with two different power supplies, I presume it is not the power supply.
Furthermore, it there was a short, then the supply would turn off, and not restart automatically correct?

I need to try and resolve this by tomorrow, since that is the limit as to when I can return the board for exchange.

Thanks for any help!!

hmmm -- maybe it was shorting.

It still does it out of the case with nothing at all connected, not even the video card. Will exchange the mb.
