View Full Version : Problem please help: nvata.sys missing

i was benching and got a error, booted again and a message appeared:

run the recovery console, because:

SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/NVATA.SYS

Is missing or damaged.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Get the latest nVIDIA nFORCE drivers off nV's site, and run it, run only the first phase of the setup which extracts the contents to a temporary folder.
Then cancel the setup.
Go to Device Manager, and uninstall the devices under IDE/ATAPI Controllers.
Restart your pc, and then in the Hardware Installation wizards set them to look into the directory of the temporary files extracted from nVIDIA's nFORCE drivers installation.
You should be fine after doing this ;)

Use your XP recovery console and do the following:
md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default



This should get you back to a basic version of XP, you will then have to reload all your drivers.
