A couple of weeks ago we posted that the XFX 8600 boxes which have the dog logo on them .. have something else embedded. Now if you look at the mouth of the dog .. you see teeth and drool / slime. But if you look closely .. there it is. If you focus a little to the upper teeth .. there's drool coming from it. Do you see that vague inscription ? I took photoshop .. rotated that part and ran a couple of filters .. indeed XFX has EVGA tagged in their drool/slime. And no ... an eVGA board arrived today and there's nothing on their packaging.
The story continues as we just learned that EVGA wasn't rather happy about this action. As it seems XFX/Pine has been prohibited to use the packaging that shows the dog with the letters EVGA in its mouth, as we posted.
XFX can get a fine of € 250.000 if it does not change the picture, as EVGA claims that XFX is using their name without permission. it only concerns the boxes of the XFX GeForce 8600GT, and the verdict means that these cards will not be allowed to be sold in the region of Muchen, Germany in he current form.
EVGA has asked all retailers in Germany to stop selling the XFX GeForce 8600GT in this box, and has asked websites that have the specific pictures on their pages to remove them.
Wow...

Wonder if this compares to my launch day XFX 8800 GTX where you can pull the sticker off and it reads EVGA 8800 GTX underneath...
All some guy in the factory did was put a XFX sticker on top.

The XFX warranty for USA:
To qualify, any 6 Series or greater Graphics Card purchased on or after April 17, 2007 must be registered within the first 30 days of purchase or the protection for the card will be limited to 1 year.
The XFX warranty for EU (excluding Spain):
XFX does not sell its Product directly to the consumer therefore the warranty for XFX Products remains the responsibility of your reseller where you purchased the Product.
Sucks to be me....
eVGA warranty always has been a bit silly....
Removal and or Defacing of Serial/Part number sticker(s) on ANY EVGA products WILL void ALL warranties. What's the lifetime of their stickers before it's unreadable?

Yeah. It's pretty obvious. Well... the "E" in "EVGA" is hard to see. But it's there.
I've been staring at the picture since I read this news looking for the letters "BFG" somewhere. :D

DOH! I'm sitting here taking pictures of an 8600GT box to show you what it looks like w/o Photoshop, etc. and then I find that Legit had this story two weeks ago, including good pics of the box!

STOLEN BANDWIDTH
Why are you stealing bandwidth and deep linking the image in the article? I think people are quite capable of clicking on the link themselves.

Reminds me of the mock AMD did back in the launch of Athlon 64/Opteron when they had the Intel chime on the motherboard. :D

It's could be considered slander for one...but it's also trademark infringement.

How could that be slander? No one said anything. It wouldn't even be libelous here in the US.

I guess someone could stare at the box too closely and think it is an eVGA graphics card. You know and completely ignore the big XFX logo.
Depends on whether or not to underestimate the possible stupidity of humans.
Just kidding of course. :p:
