I have 2 cpu's that I was going to try and take to the limit of my abilities so I decided to update my bios, so I did. Now when I use my corsair XMS3200CL2 I get C1 errors everytime I try to boot, If I jam a stick of crucial pc2100 in the second slot (running dual using 1 & 3) I boot up just fine. WTH is wrong with me what did I do wrong? The XMS was just fine with the previous bios. Did I screw something up or is Epox release increasingly worse bios. Help I feel like a ruckin fetard! I know this is prob a noob question but please help me anyways, at this point it's takin a load of patience to keep from chuckin this computer out of my window.
Epox 8RDA+ (A3 stepping)
Corsair XMS3200CL2 (2x256mb)
AMD XP2100+ AIUHB DUT3C
Geforce4 Ti4200 w/128mb
Reg stuff on Winblows XP pro

Where is mem voltage and what do you have the mem timings at?
I try pulling out the stick of corsair and booting up with the the pc 2100 and then setting the timings @ 5-2-2-2 and Vdim @ 2.8
then shut down and pull the pc2100 and put the 3200 back in and see if it boots up and loads windows ok. Let us know how you get on.

Problem with the Corsair emory in the board.
Boot up with your Crucial memory, and set memory timings manually rather than by SPD as that where the problem lies.

Okay did that, everything was fine then I tried a minor oc to what I had before the update 12.5*166 and I get the C1 error. Then I install the crucial (pc2100 mind you) and I boot up fine at xp2600+ speed with a 166mhz fsb. But my XMS can't hack it at 166 by itself. Am I just dense? Can someone explain this to me. I have been a long time epox user (well as long as I have been into computers) but this one bad experience has me swearing them off forever. I think I am going abit!

Okay, now I am really confused. The dimms slots are as follows form left to right and the first 2 being reight next to each other: Dimms 2 & 3 a gap and then 1. So previously I had 2 & 1 populated and had the problems (only after the update though) and then I put the crucial pc2100 in dimm 3 and everything was fine even though this 2100 was running way beyond spec (166 at 2.0, 2, 2, 2, 5). So as a fluke I took out the 2100 and put my xms in 3 & 1 and everything is fine. Does that mean my dimm 2 is sporked? or is this just some weird anomoly. I hope I am still under warranty if dimm 2 is gone.

It is certainly possible that one of your dimm slots is hosed. I've heard people say they had one dimm slot that wasn't as good as the others, but nothing of those proportions. You ought to be able to RMA it (even though it's probably a PITA).

what about VIA? ;) :D
it does sound like one of the DIMM slots may be malfunctioning.

the 8RDA+ I got was screwey from the word GO. Wouldn't work w/the IDE SW driver installed. Then it wouldn't take the display drivers for a Ti4200. :wierd:
An NVIDIA video card that won't work on an NVIDIA chipset ???
WOW, that's a new one, even for me.:rotf:
