i've been gathering parts and tools for my chilling setup and a few things are on order.

but one thing i've been having trouble on is finding the right waterpump to use. Im pretty much going to convert an A/C to a water chilller, but every guide ive looked through has the pump cracking due to the low temps or because of the anti/freeze//alki mixture. I was wondering if there is a solid way to circumenavigate this problem?? it really doesnt matter to me if i use the pump submerged or inline but i just dont wanna have to replace the pump every few months..

also i had a question.. well its an idea. if i completed my set up, and i used a small part of the res to have an empty canister or a submerged res(so like a res inside a res) but with very little antifreeze in and more water than anything... the point of this would be for ice to actually build up a little, and the whole' res inside of a res to be cooled by the liquid around it. I was thinking if i could use this setup to just attache like hvac-type venting material and rig up some 120mm fans to it and for the fans to suck in the cold air from this ghetto res and suck it into the case... would this idea help prevent condensation by lowering the case temps or would this worsen the condensation problem??

Snag an Iwaki pump, the MD-20 is your best bet. You can find them for a reasonable price on ebay, like around $60. They are industrial pumps, and made to handle mildly corrosive materials, so anything we can throw at them should be fine.

Hmmm, I'm not totally sure what you're suggesting, but if I gather correctly, you want to blow chilled air into the case? In all honesty, doing so would likely not affect your condensation much, while massively increasing your load. Your best bet would be to build an airtight box and cool the inside of that (with the CPU in it). This is also known as a chillbox. Here's a link to a chiller/box being build by Drewmeister over at EOCF:

I hope that helps!

sweeeeet nuggets. iwaki it is, ill have to do some research to find em, ebay looks scarce right now.
i think that thread you linked me too is exactly what i was thinking ish. that might be more expertise than i have to make a fully insulated case tho.. but oh well. thanks for the help!

If I may so recommend, your best bet is to get some wire screw caps. To use them is simplicity itself: you twist the exposed ends of the wire together, and then screw the screw caps down over that. It both forces the wires together and insulates them from contact with the world.

Soldering and electrical tape may look a little bit neater, though.

Micropump centrifugal pumps:

Rated to -46C.

This is just pump head. One of the biggest problems with chiller pump is insulation. The insulation should be made such that, in the first place, pump will not overheat and burn, and in the second place, the cold part should be properly insulated. With Iwaki monolithic design, this is probably not that easy.

Detachable head is easy to insulate. Also it may be used with different motors, as power required. Of course, it is not as easy as pre-build solution, but more versatile.

Cronos, his latest question was on how to do the electrical on a pump he had already purchased...Although I can see nothing wrong with those micropumps. :D I'm pretty sure they're Iwaki clones.

so once i get those wires nice and neat... what am i hooking it up too......? like i was under the impression ac plugs into a wall socket.. i think i might be confused on how i must power this little guy
