it's known issue with coretemp , downgrade to an earlier version or use everest home that has coretemp built in, the latter gives me one degree more but it's close enough to trust

Just use CoreTemp v0.94

I only have issues with CoreTemp (and this is even with earlier versions) if I open it and leave it open for a some time, while running Orthos. After a little while with both open (and Orthos stress testing) I get an error and CoreTemp has to be closed.

This is a known issue? Oh phew, and I thought I had messed up my system when I overclocked :P This problem only arose for me after I had finished with one of my overclocking sessions...Glad to see I didn't break anything

Heres something else. I have a QX6700 that showed big differences across the cores. 8C we're talking about. So I lapped it. Still big diff although overall temps are lower.

Funny thing is, each time I boot up, its a different core that is hotter than the rest according to coretemp. Does coretemp pick and choose which ACTUALLY cores it assigns to Core 0, Core 1, Core 2 and Core 3. ?

I'd attribute that to intel and the vast space between processors and ihs.

Well. there was only one way to find out eh?:D

Rip, what's that piece of paper say?

DragonOrta;2243270']Rip, what's that piece of paper say?

It says Quad.RIPTIDE @ XS and a :)

EDIT: I might add that Intel needs to be whipped. there was 2 high blobs of solder with a small footprint just trown onto the dies. No amount of lapping was gonna help me. It explains the 10Celcius delta I was getting at idle between diff cores. I coudn't live with it.

I agree ~Intel... no way I was going to live with the difference of all the way 7 degrees between cores with my 6420... and that's only one die :D So IHS had to leave just recently... except there wasn't any xs-factor involved cause 6420 has no components upper side near rubber  of the processor. (pics coming maybe within 24 hours...)

On topic: CoreTemp sees 6420 temps really off line. Idle temps were with IHS on 30c (room temp 29C :( ) and within a second of 100% load applied temp rises to 58c. And CT says I'm using C2D 6500   :shakes:

Does Windows Vista have some kind of default CPU temp program or any other way I can see it without using a downloaded program? I have coretemp and it is sees my E4300 with stock cooling like this

Idle: 50c
Full load: 70
Ambient: 60

I guess that is pretty accurate, I need to get myself a new cooler!

:O the IHS is off.
How'd you get it off?

I'm not sure to whom you refer but I can speak of my own case:
-razor blade
-gas torch

->pull it off :yepp:

Me?

Razon around outside to sever the epoxy.

Laid upside down in a pot/pat and heated on a gas fire. Razor blade left stuck in so i cut test intermittently for the top becoming loose. Came off in a few minutes easily. You can even smell the solder as it gets soft before the lid moves. Well with my heightened sense of smell i could :yepp:

You're :banana::banana::banana:ting me.... Intel actually SOLDERED the IHS on?!?! I dont think solder can compete with AS3/5 for thermal transfer. Did the chip DIE in the operation, or will you be able to get it running Neked?

Folding 24/7 100%... it was for me a bit tricky get it stay on socket correctly cause you cannot clamp it down anymore. I believe if our cpus did die we wouldn't tell about that anyone ;)

Working fine for me also. See... the solder was on ALL over the place.... not in correct places... and I was getitng big temp diff's across the cores.

My e6300 has only 2*C difference between the cores, which is good after reading what some people report. Im still not happy that they're different though.
