Why so expensive at the Egg? They are around $400 other places:

Ahh I love new sizes, makes the smaller capacity disks go lower in size and I'm thinking especially 500GB which will be my next pick once more space is needed. :D That you can get a 500GB internal drive for only 120~$130 now is amazing really. I like how 500GB seems to have gotten the best capacity/price combo now. :)

^True. Then once the 2TB drives come out, then the 1TB drives would be the next for me.

That is such a rip off price.

DirectCanada has it for $422 CANADIAN though it is out of stock right now.

htpc dream.... 1tb of hdd now we need faster disks....

RPGWiZaRD

Well actually I'd want slower but more affordable big sized disks that I'd only use for storage, 5400rpm 8MB cache etc. I wonder why you'd need a blazing fast 1TB disk.

My priorities of a HD:

1. Capacity
2. Price
3. Relaiability
4. Noise ratio
5. Performance
:D

does anybody know how these 1tb are achieved? that is how much platter do they use? (how much gb per platter?)

I believe this drive has 5 platters, 200gb per platter.

Why wouldnt you want it faster? Not to mention these drives are competitive with the raptors in speed. I plan on getting 2 and .. yeah.. putting them in raid 0! I already have 1.2 tb of storage and its ALWAYS full. People laughed at me then and said its not possible and since then Ive not only filled it.. ive filled it at least 3 times over if not more. DVD takes up alot of space.. especially dvd-9. 1 tb is only about 100 dvd-9 discs.. thats not alot .. not even close to alot of dvds. Im just waiting for the price to drop a bit more then its a great deal.. 120 for 500gb 300 for 1tb... its pretty close to that and it has a 32mb cache which no other drives do.

Apparently they're "not suitable for RAID". No idea why not but that's what it says on Microdirect.co.uk

and also, why store dvd-9's on your harddrive.. just use discs...

I copy dvd9 to the harddrive then convert to dvd5. Takes up alot of room. I do alot of discs each week. Im trying to find a good program that does a batch conversion so its easier than doing 1 at a time. Either way you need lots of space.
