I have a chance to get a legal copy of XP Pro 64bit for $20 from school though microsoft's discount program. and i know its a great os and stable but is the performance at least the same in all terms. i mean i will be overclocking and benchmarking so i am wondering if i will be able to do any of that and not have a major point loss on pcmark and 3dmark

The performance is the same but if you are wanting to use software OCing tools and temp monitors it is a gamble. Heck get it and if you don't like shoot me a pm :D

I overclocked just as well on 64-bit as 32-bit home edition. 3GHz Opty 165 on both.

I've been using 64-bit XP for about a month, I need it as i use 4GB. I haven't had a single problem with it, I had yet to find any software that didn't work, computer is just as stable, have had no driver issues. In my opinion, go for it! I find it just 'feels' quicker.
