I have had some problems with my DS3. I have had issues with the x-fi card and random reboots. I also think that my DS3 is killing my PSU.

So are there any other budget oc motherboards for c2d? I looked into the P5B-E but that can only handle 2.1v for memory.

I'd second that

Actually, I also ordered the Abit IB9 for 73 (after rebate) from newegg for a secondary system. Should be here on wednesday. I'll try that out and see how it goes (I've got some budget stuff on it, kingston//GeIL budget RAM, P4 630, etc...), but I could put my GeIL on it and see what it can do (I don't have a C2D, but I guess I could play around with it and see how it does :) .

If you want really cheap a MSI p965 neo f offers moderate overclocking for cheap.

Two of my psu that i hooked up to the DS3 have smoked. they were quality PSU too, the seasonic s12 600w and ocz gamextream 600w.

The DS3 does not detect my X-fi when i reboot. This x-fi works fine in other motherboards. Also i get wierd reboots randomly. Not BSOD but just odd reboots. Im guessing its the DS3+ my dieing psu that is causing it. My Oc is 24 hour stable so that should not be the problem. This mobo is just not reliable

Yeah, I don't know what the "budget" is either. I have 2 P5B Deluxe mobo's, a AW9D-MAX mobo and a Biostar TForce P965 (with another one coming, IMO a good cheap overclocking board, with the exception of not being able to adjust the 1:1 for RAM) I have tried a E6300, A E6420 and a E6600 in the Biostar and I have had no complaints, I use el cheapo WINTEC AMPO 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)for my OC's. My E6600 only got 3.2 GHz. (I have another E6600 on the way and I hope it'll clock this high. :)

Wow, 238 what  If a $104 USD (@ NE) mobo is 238  in Canada what would a over $200 USD mobo cost

that Asus P5N looks like a nice cheap mobo. Im just not sure if it would work with my Patriot memory. The DFI looks nice too its just that i might be overwhelmed by the advanced bios options

We would be able to help you better if you would tell us exactly how much is your budget? Or at least a price range?

Under $150

Under $150, I would say your best choices, as an alternative to Gigabyte, are the DFI P965-S (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136034) and the Asus P5B-Plus (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131177).

Thanks for the recommendations. Will Intel's 45mm work in current core2duo mobos?

AFAIK, only the P35/G33/X38 etc will work with 45nm.
Requires different voltage control.

I agree. I actually own a P5N-E SLI on my 2nd rig and it's a great m/b. Very stable and a great mem oc'er. Not the best for high fsb's, but for high mem clocks.

Yeah, I think everybody with access to the "Net" can find the definition of "budget". What I meant is his budget like mine (reasonable to me) or like Bill Gates, I imagine his budget wouldn't be reasonable to me.
