Who says TEC is dead?
After almost 5 months... in fact, on May 1st, it will be exactly 4 months, as my project started on New Year's...or the day of NYE. Not that I did much computer building on NYE ^__^ ... but it is a good reference point.
EDIT: Obviously from NYE to May 1st is not 5 months but 4!!
I booted up the CuBE today.
Since the 437W TEC has no relay setup, I had to manually plug in the ASTEC 24V 25A PSU once the computer was on. The pumps, dual Petra's are connected to the computer PSU. Pressing the ON button will cause them to turn on, along w/ the computer, and triggering the 320W TEC to turn on via relay. The relay controls a pair of ATX PSU's; their current is combined via a pair of bridges (a pair, because a single one gets too hot).
Since the HDD still had Vista installed, I was able to boot into Vista, but only in safemode. Anything else will give a BSOD at some point. Shutdown guarantees a BSOD.
I loaded into the BIOS and watched as the temperature of the CPU quickly declined below the displayable threshold of the AW-9D MAX, 22*C -- below that, "N/A" is displayed. I was unable to view the real temperature, sadly.
Now the entire setup is quiet except for the ASTEC, which is extremely and unbearably loud, at 48dBA (or maybe it was 58dBA). Either way, it was louder than my music, airfilter, and room fan. I'm going to find some way to quiet down this fan (>120cfm, 119mm, 24V ... a combination that requires some work to find a good replacement).
Unfortunately, installing Vista (or actually, reinstalling Vista) was a different matter. I got two BSODs:

Someone didn't do their math :) its 4 months.
So, how did you homemade PSU go? Is it eating up vast quantities of electricity? :D

:Ahem: I stand corrected <=P
I'm sleep deprived trying to solve this issue =(
Well, I haven't finished the homemade one yet, so I just used the dual ATX PSU method. The homemade PSU I will be using for my HAM radio project =D

Is it going to be SMPS or linear? :D
Anyways, enjoy your TECs. Oh and, I suggest you buy some kind of AC fan and make it fit on the rad ;)
Well, the tubes were definitely hot (as in hot bath hot) after running for some 45 minutes or so. The temperature on the CPU was still quite cool though, and the radiator was also only warm.
The PSU is gonna be switchin', or course ^__^

LOL That's EXACTLY why you need to get a fan on that thing, you'll watch your CPU temps drop wayyy down. As for your PSU, nice to see that you're not trying to waste electricity in every way possible :D
Or actually, why not make a bong? :D Regular hacksaw, glue, ABS or PVC pipe, a shower head or some container with a bunch of holes punched through is all you need :D Perhaps some vent to get the water vapor out the window instead of into your dorm.
Ohhhhhhhh my god sk. You & NOL never stop about those bongs.
Though I might attach a fan or two... or a few =D

Might as well do so. You're using how much electricity? 1.5KW??? Its a good idea to make use of it ;) Bongs handle the heat extremely well :P
Bleh bongs.
You see, the problem with a bong, is that I'll be inhaling antifreeze vapour whenever I'm in the room... which isn't a particularly good thing... and humidity is quite annoying as well.

Here's my success story:
On a heatercore with a weapon shroud, an unlapped C2D, a very hot ambient temperature (Houston, TX, USA), a very large and hot Iwaki pump, a Maze 4 (TEC version), and a GPU also in the loop, I got 9C with a 320W (QMax) pelt running somewhere in the vicinity of 12V (thats about 220W) (no voltometer). I guess 9C isn't that great for a pelt, but I'm still proud of myself for building a TEC system. TBH, I had never watercooled or even built my own PC from scratch before I tried this. I guess I sort-of jumped in headfirst, but everything came out OK.
With my E6300 OC'ed to 3.1-3.2GHZ (from 1.83GHZ stock), my temps are as low as ambient at idle. Load during games doesn't rise more than about 10C, but load on Orthos shoots through the roof, so I don't like to try that. Stupid dual core. :)

Who said you should put antifreeze in???
Antifreeze is something you totally don't need, ESP. with TECs because they keep the water nice and warm :) Order a good amount of copper sulfate, mix it in something that'll dissolve it, and dump the whole god damn thing in :) in other words, Petra's PT Nuke to the extreme :D

I dont think you quite understood the point of the antifreeze.
In a bang there is a very good chance to get bacteria and other nasties growing insude he bong and the rest of the system. Something is required to kill these organisms or your waterlock will fill with slime after some time.
Im not sure about the copper sulphate as I think it will evaporate with the bong water.. and it is poisonous!!
Harmful by inhalation or ingestion. Very toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long term damage in the environment.
If you are going to use copper sulphate please use it in a low concentration.
You should never use a large ammount of any additive in a watercooling system as it will lower performance.. and give no benefit, you cant make algea any more dead than dead!!

Sorry copper sulphate probably wasn't a good example. He needs something that won't evaporate easily, and kills algae. From what I hear antifreeze doesn't do too good of a job at killing anything...and ethylene glycol evaporates easily when sprayed so...
I think someone mentioned using Listerine before, I but I doubt it'll work because the stuff in Listerine will separate after the alcohol is gone.

I would only use water or alcohol in a bong but as for a tec water loop 50/50 distilled water and antifreeze works great! that is what I used. but watch because the antifreeze will eat the glue that is used to put the face plate on the bay res. :(

Sorry I mean algae :P I know its toxic for humans and animals and stuff.
Anyways, for a bong you can't use alcohol because it'll evaporate off really really fast, and normal water has a risk of becoming an algae partyhouse. Iodine probably doesn't work either...

You can do a bong sealed in a container! It just don't work as well as the open air!

? bongs use evaporation to cool the water. Sealing it means all the heat is contained in the reservoir. In time, the water will warm up...and...the plastic walls of your bong will do the cooling :(

yes your right! but you can use fans and blow air in over the water water to cool it! I didn't say it was a great idea but it can be done.

LOL for a bong that is a closed up unit! most bongs are opened up just like a shower! I never said it was in a sealed loop. :slap:

For example, since my computer sits at a wall near the outside of my house, I have always considered placing a bong on the outdoors side of the wall and somehow getting tubes back inside to my computer.

here is kind of the idea I was talking about!! I have seen this done in several different ways and I have seen it work. but I have never seen it work great! http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=4103&highlight=closed+bong
I look up and what do I see... post after post about bongs. <=P Same old huh? Lol.. L33T is back in the house, and the CuBE is up!! I'll get started with that cruching soon. Now, I must sleep!
