I've been looking everywhere for an answer to this question, without luck. :(
So I thought It would be okay to start a new thread regarding the matter.

Well, which air cooler is best to use with a naked cpu? Since my watercooling needs a makeover badly and I dont have time to fiddle with it I want to switch back to good ol' air in the meantime.

Since I've been using w/c Im not that updated in the air cooling business, so which one is the best to use with a ihs-less cpu without crushing the core.

One of the best bolt through HS is the thermalright ultra-120. What ever heatsink you plan on getting make sure it has bolt through mounting.

Yea, but the extreme doesn't come with S939 mounting hardware.

Get the Tuniq Tower ... I had exactly the same question and the Tuniq worked like a charm. My opty 165 is for 24/7 at 2800 and 1.35 volts at 28 degrees idle and load (games, video encoding) around 35 to 40 degrees celcius.... and thats with the fan turned to low all the way. Naked opty 165 here with some generic white goop :D

Plus that its bolt-through so its much safer for you not to damage the core ;)
