I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit on my system (dual booting with XP) last night and I've been configuring it since then. I've come across a couple of problems annd I can't find any solution to them even after searching the web for hours.

My first problem is that while I'm working on my pc at a random moment (usually soon after I log into vista)my screen goes completely black for a few seconds and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark appears in the notification area without any error messages.
I have no idea what it is since nothing happens when I click on it and it doesn't say anything when I hover my cursor over it. Any idea what it could be? :confused:

My other problem (less important than the above) is that I can't get any hard drive temperature readings with speedfan (latest version).

I could really use some help here.

That's the problem I'm most concerned about. The yellow warning triangle appears all the time after a brief period of blackness without any error messages. I don't want to re-install Vista all over again after the hours i spend configuring it to my taste(and i have a very specific taste). :(

Sounds like the famous nkl**** (forgot the exact name) error message with Nvidia cards. Are you running Dreamscene? It use to happen to me quite a bit with Dreamscene. I've uninstalled that and the problem doesn't occur as often. Probably once every few weeks. The whole screen turns black then comes back and I get that nkl**** driver has stopped working. Try updating your video drivers if you haven't already.

Did you click on the yellow ! thingy? It should tell you some detail of what the problem is -- maybe a hardware conflicting issue.

I have this problem too on Vista RC2. it happens when I overclock my video card (7600GT), and then try to put the graphics card in 3d mode. Here's what I do:
open ATI tool, ->overclock the card
try 3d mode->card crashes, black screen for 10 sec, recovers
reset card to stock clocks-> try 3d mode-> another videocard crash
-> re-overclock card->try 3d mode-> 3dmode works
note that I never have this problem when I don't OC my video card.

Yes, I use dreamscene as well. But it probably isn't the problem since you say you disabled it but it still occurs every now and then.

I've tried to click on it but nothing happens.

My drivers are up to date and my I haven't OC'd my GPU (it is factore overclocked however).
