Challenged by the AMD Quad Core processors due out in the third quarter, in addition to the price slash strategy, Intel plans to further strengthen its leadership by releasing 1333MHz FSB Kentsfield Quad-Core processors. Coupled with the upcoming X38 chipset, Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 will provide the most powerful thrust for those gamers, digital design professionals and enthusiasts who crave the highest performing computers they can get their hands on.

Intel Core 2 Extreme processor QX6800 runs at 2.93 GHz; features include: 4MBx2 L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB and 130W TDP. To seize the market, Intel has launched QX6800 in the earlier time this month, much advanced than the original schedule. The processor is available now at a cost of US$1,199, a bit higher than the previous plan at US$999.

For the match up with the X38 chipset, which supports 1333MHz FSB, Intel also plans to release Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 running at 1333MHx FSB in the third quarter. Running at 3 GHz, QX6850 features 4MBx2 L2 Cache and 130W TDP. The processor is set at a cost of US$999. At the time QX6850 is released, QX6800 is set at a lowered cost at US$999 as well.

1333 chips are bad for everyone except X chip owners IMO. just means a lower multi. :(

Its just a natural move to 1333FSB, soon we get 1600FSB with servers.

Just a fsb improvement to match the new chipsets much like the other 6x50 chips. It wouldn't suprise me if we see a q6850 and qx6950 (3.33ghz) should the highest clocked Barcelona look to beat kentsfield at 3ghz. Unlocked multi would give the qx6850 that easily anyway, but for marketing purposes a qx6950 to finish off the 6 series of chips before the release of penryn would make sense.

Nah, Intel QX6850 also has built in Soul Destroyer built into the cache. They don't tell you that though...

But if QX6850 is based on Penryn core, it will have more features than just a PSB and Clock Speed bump...

It's Kentsfield.

This will be the same as finding the max frequency a 6300 can get. Blah, this Chip doesn't interest me, only for people with no intentions of overclocking.

I think every benchmarker who's ever used an FX, EE, X, or QX edition processor would disagree with you.

When was the last time you heard a 6300 breaking a clock speed record?

oh.. forgot this multiplier is unlocked.. lol

I wish they would release this now. I'm buying a new machine at work, I want it to have this chip. It's a lot of money to go dual socket X6800.

QX6850. The X = guaranteed price gouge.

It could have been worse. The first EE offered a 2% increase in performance for more than double the price. The QX6850 offers quite a bit more.. well more anyways..

i guess we're gonna get a bunch of small speed bumps till intel releases an 8 core cpu.

Yeah, or native quad core.

'Cause you know the 8-core part will just be a couple of the native quad-cores "duct-taped* together. :p:

QX6850 is actually 200$ cheaper than current QX6800. Since the price will fall back to 999$.

It's sounds like it's just a binned chip that they use for the Mac Pros.

Apple will get 99 percent of the chips and everyone else can have the other 1 percent. Forget about trying to get your hands on this one.

why do you ay that?

all intel core archetecture cpu's are capable of this, i cant imagine any yield issue at all, they should be able to make as many as they like.
