I forgot to install this when I did my install. I can't use the intel drives for my sata hard drives, when I plugin the sata cables nothing happen. I want to utilized my intel sata drives, is there for a way for me to do it without wiping out my hard drive? I am using the jmicron port for one of my sata drive. The max sata ports I can use is 2 because I forgot the steps below. I don't have a floppy drive either. I need help...
I forgot to do this... I really want to use the intel sata ports... Need help please..
2. Latest Intel Chipset Software Installation Utilityv. 8.1.1.1010 . An ESSENTIAL utility for any P5W HD Deluxe based system!!!WARNING: APPLY ONLY DURING CLEAN INSTALL!!!

3. Intel Matrix Storage Manager v.6.2.1.1002. Listed also (scroll down):
Floppy Configuration Utility Intel Matrix Storage Manager (F6), which should be downloaded as well!

During install Intel Matrix F6 drivers, scroll down to ICH7R!
It is strongly recommended to install Intel Matrix F6 drivers when using SATA-2 harddisks (in NON-RAID mode) connected to ICH7R, which ensures NCQ feature is working. Full version of Intel Matrix ensures that former Application Accelerator, currently included in Intel Matrix, will be used and that all attached IDE/ATA Drives (incl. optical drives) are running automatically UDMA mode rather than PIO mode (if supported).

you need to RTFM
(read the manual)

1. The chipset drivers can be installed at any time by you. The warning is for when you want to upgrade the drivers, and at that I never had a problem doing it. Do so at your own risk though.
2. You only need the drivers when you are using raid.
3. If you are not using RAID. Connect the drives. In the bios you need to Go to ->Main -> IDE config -> Configure SATA as Standard IDE, Enhanced Mode, SATA or SATA+PATA if you have any parallel drives connected
4. Set the proper drive to boot.
5. Save and exit.
The manual that comes with the motherboard has explained everything about how to use RAID with Intel ICH7R, etc. Very easy to understand.
And, you really don't need Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It is just like status of RAID.

I use want to use the second drive as storage, nothing more. I don't need raid at all but when I tried using it in the intel sata ports, it wouldn't recognize it. When I use it for Jmicron it instantly recognizes it. So i'm not exactly sure what is wrong, i thought that perhaps what I'm doing wrong is not installing the intel drivers. I'll try the above method prescribe, I really want to install my third hard drive.

Are you trying to install Windows XP? If so, you need to install Intel RAID driver before you install Windows XP.

That is where the problem lies. I already install xp, install all my softwares and stuff too. I don't have a floppy drive either to install those intel drivers. I was just wondering if there was a way for me to utilize the intel sata ports without installing those drivers or finding a way to bypass them. I tried hooking up my hard drive to the intel sata port and nothing happens, it doesn't even show up in bios or windows but when I move it to the Jmicron it works fine. You know how far the Jmicron ports are on the board. I'm not exactly sure what to do. I'm thinking about just sellilng the board and buy another one because i'm frustrated.

Look. You don't need to use the drivers unless you are running raid. NCQ should be disabled for non server use anyway.
The SATA are native otherwise. Did you try my advice?

I tried your method and it doesn't work, my second hard drive doesnt' even detect in the intel sata ports. I plug it back into the Jmicron port and it works. I don't know why its not detecting, is my mobo messed up?
I don't think your motherboard is messed up. I have a feeling that you didn't do something right with BIOS setup. You probably disabled ICH7R (or I am not sure if you could do it because I have my Jmicron disabled).

I called tech support and they told me I needed the intel chipset drivers installed for the intel sata's to work. Ok so it seems im booting my OS from the Jmicron, since the intel doesn't work. I set and configure my SATA as AHCI in bios and it let me installed the intel chipset drivers, which I previously could not because it gave me an error that my system did not meet the min. requirement. Rebooted and then installed the IMSM, rebooted it again. Thought I finally figure it out and maybe got the intel sata drives to work? Nope nothing showed up. Loaded up IMSM and it said that I installed it wrong. I'm thinking about just ebaying the mobo and picking up the evga 680i.
Uhh, don't give up and buy a new motherboard. :( When I get home, I'll copy the settings from BIOS then post it here later...maybe this evening.
