So I bought an Asrock motherboard to utilize my P4 Northy sitting around and my spare X1950XT...All was running well on a piece of foam, I decided to put it into a spare case, voila...I smell smoke. I left an extra standoff in the case that shorted out the mobo...Damn...So I just ordered another PCI-E Asrock mobo...hopefully that's all that I cooked.

Ow that sucks :(
Sometimes I hate the metal standoffs, old babyAT PCs used to use plastic ones mostly, with just a couple metal ones to screw down the board with. Problem was the board tended to wiggle around so it wasn't all that great either, and removing the standoffs from the board could be a pain.
Guess we learn from our mistakes, just sucks that the mistakes have to cost money :(

Don't feel bad - this one time I turned a motherboard on while it was lying on an anti-static bag. It was late at night and I wasn't feeling myself. The stupidest part is that I spent half an hour specifically trying to find this bag, because I was in find-a-place-to-store-it mode and not turn-it-on-to-diagnose-a-problem mode. I still can't believe how stupid that was...
It never turned on again...

I've run mobos on anti-static bags before. Now been told not to do that and just run on a desk or something, but I didn't know that at the time so I thought it best to put the board on the bag. Worked fine.... Guess I was lucky.
