well my OC'ed 8800GTS 640 with an E6400 @ 3.00ghz gets a better score in 3dmark06 (~10500), so the price of the 8600's better be low! :D
But then again it's just benchmarks. Gotta see how they do in games.

hmm why am I not impressed?
Its a midrange card afterall, but my 7300GT sli setup is as fast in 03 (with a faster cpu). Thats why I am not really impressed. I somehow thought it would be capable of more than that :/

not good at all, i expected more
i would not judge those new cards only from benchmarks scores
i will need some fps results for most of the popular games now days

Look around you will easily those types of benchmarks. This card seem slighty more powerful than X1950pro with DirectX included. Pay 60/80$ more for phantoms DirectX10 so...
i know that
but there are no Sli results for games
and anyway i said that cause i just want to show that judging cards only from benchmarks is not a wise thing to do

a single 640mb 8800GTS has more vRAM available for use, higher memory bandwidth and a better GPU.
and costs less and uses less power.
humm...

Then you would agree that 3D 03 is more CPU bound then Video bound. But still, you are right, I'm not that impressed. They are decent scores however.

nVidia really should have used 64 SP's in the 8600's. I suppose it's not too bad for 32x2 SP's to come close to 96 SP's in the 8800GTS. Should be $150 though for that kinda performance.
Edit: The more I think about it, the more I realise they could be leaving it open for a possible 8700. They're using 8300, 8400, 8500, 8600 & 8800. The 8700 could possibly be a 64 shader 256bit card using a 7900 board. It's just a theory but it would plug a fairly large gap in the performance area. I guess we'll have to wait & see if nVidia pick up on the big gap they've left.
