digitimes also pressed an article about it here (http://www.digitimes.com/displays/a20070411PR206.html)

I agree, I hope the transition from CCFL to LED backlighting is smooth and swift. From my understanding LED is superior in every way except manufacturing prices of the current time, but more demand could and should lead to better and more efficient processing techniques.

Yay!

I'd take my LCD over my old CRT any day (which was a really nice one). Nice not lugging a CRT around, and I love widescreen :D

Why? with the first LCD LED? it will take time, at first they will cost more,
but it is good that samsung is bringing LCD LED to the mass.

wonder what the prices of those "old" 24 inch apple cinema screens would be if prices are going down :)

because i wouldn't bother having one of those even though they aren't led-backlit screens:rolleyes:

Does this reduce the problem of dead pixels ?

I doubt it, those aren't caused by the backlighting.

I highly doubt it. Although their QC is probably really high on these panels.

Anyway seems to me we will now have issues of not only dead pixels but also dead LED's.

same here, I'll never go back to CRT again. That's like asking me to go back to using 5.25 floppy. And that is madness!! :p:

well look here:

http://www.pricewatch.com/monitors/refurbished_24inch.htm

used to cost $2500 before wide LCDs showed up.. except for being big and heavy, it's still superior to any LCD stuff

I know I want one :fact:

But this LED tech sounds great. Current backlights can now finally be called what they always were -total bs heh.

Also I think they will put a bigger than needed amount of LEDs back there, so that even if a few go out you shouldn't be able to notice.. nothing like bad pixels anyways.. or bad backlight

Any chance of a 22'' 16*10??? I wouldn't have the cash for X2900XT crossfire to play games at 19*12:slobber:

hmmmm yes please, I'll take one :D. Just get that contrast ratio up to around 2000:1+ and I'll be very very happy :D.

the colour gamut is much improved. cost....

anyways QC isnt that good even on the benq fp241wz. had to get another to get no dead pixels. 3 on the previous.

You've got to be joking.. that thing must weight 80 pounds.. I'll take my 20 pound 22" LCD instead.

I couldn't find anything on the response rate or refresh time. I want a 100Hz refresh rate LCD with a 10ms or less response time. True 100fps hellz yea.

22" with 1680 x 1050? Yea there are plenty of those around right now. Or are you referring specifically to the LED-backlit stuff? I can't tell :p:

refresh rates, don't affect lcd's like they did crt's.

I read somewhere dvi is capable of ~256 FPS, anyone can correct me here.

helz yes i don't mind having that.
death to lcd. crt > lcd in all aspects including weight:) (excluding led lcd of course)

My biggest concern is the 10,000 hour lifetime. Sure, for the average user who doesn't watch TV chronically 24/7 it'd be fine, but if the technology (in its present state) were to be a substitute for my computer screen, i'd barely get two years from it.

Yes, I know it'll mature, but for now it's holding me back from screaming my pants off.

That is what I was told, and believed, for the longest time until I heard Toshiba and Samsung are both selling 100Hz LCD TVs, and I imagine computer monitors at those refresh speeds are not far behind. As far as I understand, all LCDs are 60Hz refresh rate right now (mine is). If your LCD has a response time of 16ms or higher, refresh rate doesn't matter at all (1000/60 = ~16). If it is lower than 16, than it is limited by the refresh rate. So to prevent screen tearing you want the response time and the refresh time to be somewhat parallel. So 100Hz (and thus 100fps) and 10ms would line up.

cool, i'll have to find one of those 100Hz lcd tv's then.
