I'm building a new pc pulling some parts from my old system to put in the new one (mostly the w/c gear). I don't know a lot about memory and have done lots of research to better my "what to purchase" knowledge. Just wanted to post here to get ideas from the many experienced members in this forum. I have intentions to O/C system to a comfortable stable level.
Memory I had in mind
OCZ DDR2 PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha VX2 Dual Channel
OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper HPC Edition 2048Mb/2Gb (2x1024)
Case - Lian Li V2000B Modded (Have)
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 (Have)
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700
Memory - 4gig type??
Graphics - XFX 8800GTX x 2 (SLI)
HD1 & 2 - 2x36 Raptor Raid 0 (Have)
HD3 - 72Gig Raptor (Have)
HD4 - 150Gig Raptor (Have)
HD5 - 500Gig Seagate or similar
PSU - Seasonic M12 Modular 700W or Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 650W
Sound - Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty (Have)
Monitor - 30" Dell or Samsung
Cooling
CPU & GPU (North & South chips undecided)
CPU - D-TEK Fuzion (Have)
GPU - Swiftech MCW60 (Have)
Pump - Swiftech MCP655 12V Pump (Have)
Tubing - Tygon 7/16" (Have)
Rad - Thermochill PA120.3 (Have)
Res - Swiftech MCRES-MICRO (Have)
Fans - Tricods or Panaflo medium on controller
What memory does everybody suggest? Thanks in advance
If you want one of the best over clocking memory out there for with a dirt cheap price get the crucial ballistic PC8000 for 185$ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146563) after 50$ rebate ,,,,,,, LEDs fan pay 35 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148047)$ more and get the ballistic tracer(same overcloking potential ) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,of course if you want custom cooling the OCZ reaper is your choice

i would opt for the G.Skill HZ PC-6400 2gb (the black sticks). amazing oc'ers and very stable!
also... you have all that gear, including SLi 8800's, and youre thinking about those PSU's? i think what you need is a heck of a lot more power :/

The seasonic 700W should provide enough power but I'd also consider a silverstone unit such as an olympia/decathalon 700W+ unit, I'm sure perkam would concur. On the RAM I'd agree with the above, basically get whatever you can get cheapest with some D9GMH IC's: Crucial Ballistix, G.Skill HZ, Team Xtreem, Buffalo Firestix are all good choices, check http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/ that will tell you what IC's are on most sticks.

well, becaues you have so many fans, and also multiple hard drives, i wouldnt skimp on the power.
two 8800gtx's... 4sticks of memory.. 5hard drives and a quad core? i lol at 700watt
id probably go with something like an Enermax Galaxy 850W if not more
better to have more than enough power, than to have JUST enough.

Thanks for your replies guys.....
I'll consider and look into the RAM you've have all suggested. My only concern is the motherboard is relatively new and with considerations to the problems with the Asus striker extreme board (680i chip) there seems to be a lot of memory problems. Hopefully gigabyte have sorted most of these problems out.
I had looked further into the psu requirement http://web.aanet.com.au/SnooP/psucalc.php and this tells me I need around 717w under gaming load, recommending a decent psu of 936w

maybe an Enermax 1000Watt then :P
although im not sure about other makes.. do some research!
hmm.. i googled 'gigabyte dq6 g.skill hz', and found a few people with probelms of compatibility :( id look into it more as they really are fantastic sticks

As I've always said, minimum 850W psu for G80GTX SLI + Quad Core.
You can use Seasonic and other high quality 700-750w PSUs if you intend to run a qc + dx10 sli/crossfire rig at stock....in which case you wouldn't deserve a better psu in the first place X(

Really? I see people with 700W OCZ GXSs and they have overclocked kentsfields and G80s...
But of course, with a monster rig like that it couldn't hurt to step up to 750, or 850.

No, 700w is not enough for an overclocked quad core with two overclocked beastly 8800 cards. Well, you may squeeze by - with hardly any room for extra stuff i.e. hard disks, opticals, etc..

Actually, 500 watts is enough. (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36066) I say go with a Corsair 620. They were the most quiet PSUs tested by SPCR.
This is also an interesting thread relating to the subject. (http://www.abxzone.com/forums/cases-psus-mods/106438-psu-you-overdoing.html)
