ive got AS3 on it at the mo, is anything else likely to make a significant difference?

Many pelt users use normall white stuff for coldplate to pelt contact as AS isnt supposed to work well at sub zero temps, ive not seen any direct evidence only oppinons.

but Pelt to coldplate is a high surface area where CPU to evap is smaller and higher pressure...

Im using AS2, but not becuse I thought about it its just what I had on hand.

Shin Etsu might be a little better, but ive never tried any.

I can verify that the ShinEtsu 751 works great with Vapo cooling...takes several days to really drop the temps and is hard as hell to spread evenly, but blows the others away as far as temps. I need to get some more...it is expensive. I noticed that after several months of 24/7 cooling...it's still there when you remove the evap head, whereas some of the other stuff seems to be almost gone or spread to the outside edges. Does anyone know a good US supplier? :D

I have some akasa TIM's which are made of shinetsu G-571 so next time i take the evap off ill see if i can get one of them on there. I was under the impression though, that this shinetsu stuff had to be heated up in order to set, which would make it bad for use in subzero temps.

What kind of temp difference am i looking at with these shinetsu pads instead of AS3?

Cleaning the AS3 off the chip while the hold down device is still over it is gonna be a job and theres no way im taking everything out just so i can get to the back of the mb to unscrew it. i wonder if i can get the metal plate out of the plastic bracket without taking everything off. that would at least give me access to the cpu without unmounting everything, but it was hard getting the metal plate out of the plastic bracket when i had it in my hand so im not too hopefull of being able to do it while its on the board.

That's probably why it takes a few days for temps to go down. It will heat up in direct contact with CPU even in a Prommie or Vapo. I don't remember how much better my temps were than with AS3, but it was a significant amount. I need to find some in the states...where did you get those pads?

Edit: Never mind...You are in UK.

-20cpu? load? idle? r404?

my cpu idles at -28c right now. drops to about -7 or -8 according to mbm and asusprobe under prime AND superpi load (at the same time).

looking at these akasa shinetsu tims im not sure one of them is bug enuff to cover the whole of a p4 core.

Maybe you can cut a couple to fit? I usually prefer the grease, but since the shinetsu is so hard to spread anyway...maybe they would be better to use.

I have a major company sending me some grease and adhesive samples to test...they also are sending a new product that I am very excited about but not allowed to discuss yet. It will be a couple of weeks before I get the samples and that's about the same time as my surgery...so it may be a month before I can actually try them out.
I have been testing samples from a different company and I am not too impressed...stuff seems about average so far and not good at all for super cooling....but it spreads like butter.
Anyway....I should have enough info for a decent article in about 2 months. :D
