Do you use mouse acceleration?

Explain why or why not, and when (for example, windows, gaming).

I'll start. I've used it for years, probably ever since Windows 95 (did they have it in Windows 3.1?). It gives me both a slow cursor at low speeds for accuracy, and a high speed cursor when I move it faster to get around quick. Since you have to disable acceleration with this mouse (unless there is something I am missing), if you are using a larger monitor and need a high speed cursor to cover the area it will be too fast at low speeds to be accurate. I find myself overshooting all my buttons. I hope I will get used to it, but I see it as a major disadvantage for me. How else would one get both low and high sensitivity at the same time?

It seems that a lot of "gamers" swear by disabling it entirely, but with it I was always deadly accurate.

I love the ability to change my mouse settings on the fly.
In fact I love it so much, that using mice without it are frustrating. It is so fluid and responsive. I crank it up for daily use, drop it to the floor for detail work, and throw it around when gaming. A great mouse with it is hard to beat... Atleast until I can control my computer with my thoughts

How do you turn it off? Just got a new mouse because my Optical Blue is just wearing out (5 year) old. My aim is off in first person shooters, i blame it on inexperience with the new mouse and acceleration.

I have my acceleration set at medium, that way I don't have to move my hand very much and it's still be very accurate

I have it on, it feels weird without it. My MX518 also has on the fly DPI adjustment so I can reduce that when sniping in games too.

people who use mouse accel are total newbies

CPL mouse fix + "-noforceparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd" in the steam command line FTW

I do not use mouse acceleration. I find it disorienting when moving my mouse this distance slowly doesn't make it traverse the same amount on screen as if I moved that same amount quickly. So one of the first things I always do is remove mouse acceleration after a reformat. Usually I do the same thing as XenatR above and use the CPL mousefix.

Little do you know, there are really GOOD people out that that DO use it, and use it well.

That's the point. You get your accuracy with small distances, and your speed at longer mouse distances, the best of both worlds. When you master it, it works great.

With that said, I am getting use to it being disabled but it still isn't quite right. Now other computers are starting to feel odd with it on. It's all in what you are used to, you can master either system, but being so different you can't really be trained with "both" at the same time.

though i cant live without my G5 set @ 2000dpi (transversing 4 monitors can b a :banana::banana::banana::banana:), i cannot stand accel. - it just throws me off... mayb i should learn to use it so i can move my hand even less...
