Got my Mach2 yesterday, its very nice, I was just wondering exactly what effect filling it with r404 has on the unit itself. Does the unit run a lot hotter than r134, if so is this going to affect the lifetime of it? do you have to run the fans faster (louder) to keep it cool enuff?

well i will try to anser this quickly to help you..:D
i had been gone for a week and getting caught up isnt going to be easy.
but the prommy can be swaped out to 404 but.....
but just replacing the freon you will create more heat on the compressor and condensor.so most of the time you will need to increase the fan speed.
and to do it right it will take a addition of capillary tubing to get the freon charge right.just swapping over the refrigerant you will get better temps but a little to much freon will flow to the evaperator not allowing the best temps possable,

i am going to be working on one in the next couple of weeks.i am changing it over to 404a.i am going to see how far a prommy will go.....:D

and it belongs to OPPAINTER.
so i plan on seeing if i can give him a very cold one.i think when i am finished, there will be no prommy that will come close.

hope this helped some:D

hey fill me in too....I have all the tools necessary to do the job...
I already have 404 in the prommie and am building a 404 water chiller as we speak....
come on ole buddy ole pal....:D

can you make a walkthrough when you do? thanks!

Thru lucky happenstance I've become the proud owner of 2 prommies, so I'm interested in the r404a mod procedure too (might as well twink the shizznit outa one of them at least). Don't forget the digital cam when you do your mods Bowman :)

hmmm... OPP w/ a super Bowman-modified prommy..... *shudders*

Agree's *shudders some more*.

Im really interested in a walk thru too as I have a prommy but Im a dumbass when it comes to compressors. :(

So how much addition should it be ca. ?
The cap tube is this very smal tube between the condensor and the compressor, right ?

Without doing this addition would just effect the cooling perfomance or have any other side effects ? ( on heat or life of the compressor )

well i will be taking pics, and doing a write up.

but the mod i will be preforming will not be easily done.it takes ac tools and other equipment.getting the right capillary tubing will be very darn hard to get right.connecting the capillary tubbing will be very hard to do.done wrong and the system will not work.

the unit will be first fixed to factory specs and put under a heat load to test its cooling proformance and recorded.
then i will tear it down and start moding the capillary tubing and adding charge and pressure reading ports.

this isnt for the faint of heart.the head will have to be removed from hosing and rebrased back on.

time will tell.and i will see what i can get out of her.:D

well first just fill her up with r404a and post a write up.. then mod it even further!

well hard to say.i will put my foot in my mouth and say -60c reading on the evaperator.

time will tell

-60 :slobber: I gota do this!

What are the negative effects though?

only it will take time to fine tune.i will have to replace and or add capillary tubing to the unit.this is a very slow process to get right.and you waste alot of refrigerant testing.
i have one prommie due to me today.i will have to find out tonight the size capillary tubing the factory used and order some ,so i can add some more to the unit.

good show old chap keep us posted :)

if it works i will definatly do mine as im allready r404a just need the other mods to improve the cooling poformance ie cap tube lenth etc.

good luck i hit -54 regularly, prbably would do more but the prommie just beats at me, but i know bowman is god and will beat me :D
