View Full Version : XF 14 up and running... and a few questions

I just got XF 14 up and folding, and I will be using it as my main machine for the next 2 or 3 weeks, so folding performance may suffer when gaming :D. Should be pretty much hardcore folding for at least the rest of the summer though.

Anyway, questions are as follows:
I'm using the command line client... I assume it's the fastest?
What can I do to ensure maximum number of points are put in, that doesn't require constant monitoring on my part?
Is there any way to make the command line client run invisibly, or in the system tray or something? I suppose I could just make it run in the task scheduler as admin, which will make it invisible (I've done this in the past with SETI), but then I can't check how it's doing as easily, etc...

Anyways, thanks for the help :D.

You can run the cmd line version as a service using your favorite "run as service" app then just have a desktop shortcut to the logfile to check its status. Fairly easy. (Assuming you're not running a DOS based OS.)

Nope, XP Pro. Got a link to a "run as service app?"

make sure the -advmethods and -forceasm are on so that they have the optimizations on.

Also, go to the downloads page and scroll down to the beta version and get that, and then put the two previous tags in. This enables fast SSE optimizations and speeds up folding.

FireDaemon (google it), is a utility that allows you to run a program as a service, so the only way you know its running is if you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and see the CPU Usage at 100% and its running in the programs list, but it doesn't show up on the taskbar :)

FireDaemon (http://www.firedaemon.com/) is the most popular one, but there are others.

Complete how-to make F@H a service info here (http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/5707) from DSLReports' team page.

Okay, thanks guys. Now running the beta client with -forceasm and -advmethods (at least I think I am) and running as a service. Looking forward to cranking out lots of WU :D.

I like to add "-verbosity 9" too so you can get more detailed information on what the client is doing in the logs - eg it shows the result of the benchmark the client runs when it starts and gives detailed info about uploads and downloads.
