Long story short, my computer started blue screening with 4 sticks of ram installed PERIOD. At first I wasnt able to OC near as far with 4 sticks as I was with 2.
Then a few days ago it started bluescreening after the loading bar for vista with 4 sticks installed. I took out 1 stick and it would get into windows fine. I swapped em around to find out if a stick was bad or something, but it always worked so long as 4 sticks were not installed.
Now it wont get into windows period. Blue screen no matter how many sticks I have installed. Now I can boot from cd and start the windows install no problem, but upon the part where it logs into windows BLUE SCREEN. Ive tried different voltages, underclocking, fail safe... I blue screen after the loading bar for vista.
Whats going on? Is my processor toast? something else toast?
I completely have no idea what to do. anyone help?

1) run superPI
2) run Mem test
3) report back

how can i run anything, i cant get into windows?
and I'm hard pressed to believe 4 sticks of ram are damaged to the point of allowing me to install vista but not boot in.
could be wrong though,
thoughts?
if those are ran from boot/dos I have no floppy =(

download and burn
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
run memtest and then CPUburn in

on it, will post back with whatever it says/my findings. From what im coming across so far, i'm seeing some bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: (excuse my french this ruined my night)
but apparently im reading that gigabytes raid drivers are causing havoc with vista (who woulda guessed)
No gaurantee thats whats going on, nor why it would or wouldnt hvae happened before but...
taking any ideas before I jump out my window!!

one thought, skip raid unless it is required

Can you give us a little more information:
1. Motherboard
2. RAM
We need this information. Without it, all I can recommend is make sure you are running in 2T mode. 4 sticks will need slightly relaxed settings vs 2 sticks.

Hey soulburner,
the motherboard is a gigabyte 965p s3. the ram is gskill pc6400.
as for memory and timings etc, I cant even get into windows with 1 stick in lol. I'm leaning towards the raid drivers although I dont know why they would all of a sudden start causing a problem now. Not only that, but the fact that Ive always had trouble running at good speeds with 4 sticks as opposed to 2 in this board. Basically im lost >.<

It sounds to me like your board went south.
If all 4 of your sticks behave the same, that rules out that variable. Try each one, in all 4 slots independently. If that fails, your board is done :(

Put everything at stock first, even the mem voltage and timings...then go on with diagnostics nn has recommended.

dont think it could be gigabytes newer raid drivers mis behaving or something?
Im waiting for nero to finish downloading and ill be able to post back with the results of the memtest etc! I have my fingers crossed, this board is so far wedged into my case with the gpu the nb and the cpu all watercooled in a midtower. Taking it out woul dbe a nightmare!

ok nn, I have the ultimatebootdisc burnt and running, however am i supposed to run memtest86 or memtest86+? Also am i supposed to run it with all my ram installed or just one stick at a time?
So far its been running a good 1/2 hr with all 4 sticks installed, does it actually finish or is it a continual loop type deal?
Sorry for the nubness!

what do we say memtest and just one stick for now
klepp1214

Well so far memtest is checking out with no errors. Cpuburnin, how long should that run? I let it run about 20 mins and came back with no problems.
I have just swapped both my hard drives from the raid controller/ports on the board to the regular sata ports and am installing vista again to see if it is possibly the raid ports acting up somehow?
is this a good idea/next course of action?
Thanks again for the help thus far!

if there are no memory errors and no CPU errors, the next logical step is to see if you can start in safe mode (press F5 during boot up), if not we would have to go burn a copy of Knoppix http://www.knoppix.org/
and we will see if it is a problem with the drive

Ok as we speak im typing this from my pc which was having the issues. I moved my two drives over to the regular sata headers instead of the raid headers and windows has seemed to install fine.
Does this point to the issue being the raid headers/controller itself or a driver issue?
Does anyone have any idea where I can obtain older drivers than the ones that are on gigabytes website? They may not be agreeing with me for some reason?

if the problem is raid, why do you have to use Raid? just avoid the problem completely

oh and for the record, it would not start in safe mode, it would stop and bluescreen/restart around crcdisk or something similar (i forget)
regardless to be safe im going to download the app from the link you provided and run it to make sure my drives are ok even though I assume they are, and then we can go from there?

well for the obvious reasons! I bought a board with raid, to use the raid of course. I know its debateable/argueable as far as performance goes, but in the end, it worked at one point and for some reason its not working now. If nothing else, id like to find out what or why. that makes sense right?

full specs = vistax64, E6300, Gigabyte 965p-s3 tried w/ F6 7 and 8 bios, 4x1gb of gskill6400 the bnq stuff. 8800gtx and a x-fi xtremegamer. 2x 160gb 16mb cache WD hdd's too if that matters.
working on trying some older drivers now but dont have my hopes up =(

thus far i found an older version or a different countries version (webpage wise) from gigabyte with driver version 1.17.07.06g which is listed as a beta driver and dated as being older than 1.17.07.06 which is the new driver that doesnt work. Go figure.
either way fixed for now! hope that helps someone else =(
Now im just deathly afraid to ever update my darn raid drivers in fear that'll happen!

perhaps you should wait for raid, because right now it just seems to be getting in the way of you actually using the computer that you spent so much money on

lol nnstep amen to that! nonetheless its working now, im just gonna be damn careful if i ever update my raid drivers again, if at all. and gg yes i basically reformated but had to find older drivers, the newer ones bluescreened me till i was blue in the face!
