System:
Asus A8N-SLI
Arctic Cooler 64 pro
AMD 64 4000
Corsair TwinX 4400C25 2x512mb
XFX 6800GSXXX
Tagan480-u22 psu

I’m trying to overclock my CPU to match the FSB speeds my ram is rated at. I bought a matched pair of Corsair TwinX 4400C25 which are rated to run at 550mhz, FSB 275, but the highest satiable FSB my CPU will go to is around 235 with a multi x12, core speed 2.8Ghz.

I know the problem is with my CPU because I dropped the multi down x4 and the Ram went up to 275 no prob on a timing 1:1 2.5-4-4-8 T2, 2.7volts. Passed memtest every time I upped the FSB by 10 from a start of 200

Because my cpu is satiable at 2.8 Ghz , multi x12, I tried dropping the multi to x10 so I could get to my rams max fsb 275, but as soon as I get past an FSB of 240 my cpu becomes unstable will not pass the 30 min test on OCCT.

HT is set to X3
Ram timing 1:1 2.5-4-4-8 T2, 2.7volts
PCI-E set to 33Mhz
CPU volt tried from 1.45 to 1.5
CPU temps have never gone past 41c at max load

I know it sound good getting my CPU overclocked to 2.8Ghz, but I feel it’s not getting the most out and my Ram.

Is there anything I’m not doing, or doing wrong. Do I need a better Motherboard or CPC? I’d really appreciate some help from some of you seasoned overclockers, because as you can tell I’m a bit a novice.

I think it is something with the Mobo , many Asus A8N mobo suffered from ram issues (including mine), there is three things you can do

1-try to test both your CPU and ram on one of your friends Mobo just to make sure what is causing that problem
2- flash your Mobo Bios (didn't work for me)
3- run low speed on the memory with tight timings (it is not perfect with TCCD but you can do 1:1 with Cas2 pretty easy)

I think you might be right about my mobo. but why would it let me push my fsb up 275 with the multi set @ x4 when i was overclocking my ram ?

that is noraml with the mobo set your memory to DDR500 and the mobo will drop your Multi and raise FSB to 250 , do that and see what happens ,

PS your memory can go up to DDR600 so try to test different multis

Edit : something risky but might help

does your asus not let you pick a higher ratio? my k8v se-deluxe had the options for 233/266 over 200.

Just did what you said and tryed at ddr550, booted ok and pass super-pi 32m amd occt 30min test ok.

It has set my multi to x8 giving 2.2ghz.

so what does this tell me, and what can I do to get my cpu back up to around 2.8ghz with a fsb of 275.

P.s How do I show screen shots with my post?

test different ram dividers till you find the one that will use Multi of 10 then keep pushing up to 2.8GHZ

for screen shots either pick Manage attachments while posing and use something less than 200K or use imageshack.us to upload your images

When you click on "quote" or "reply", there is a section, at the bottom, called "Additional Options".

You can attach files, like a .jpg or .png file ( image files of your screenshot ), to your post by using "Attach Files>Manage Attachments".

If the SS's are on your hard drive you should resize them to no bigger than 600 wide and up to 450 tall. You can use a imaging program like the free IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com) to maniplulate or resize your images or screenshots.

Furthermore, if you'd like a good screenshot program, try MWSnap (http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html), which is also free.
