Ok, so i went a lapped my heatsink "zalman 9500" to test it out before i go and lap my E6600 cpu. heatsink looks good but not as good as i would like it. i went to 1000grit. i think its just me though im a perfectionist.

anyway my question has to do with with way of lapping. at first i treid the figure 8 way of lapping but i kept getting caught up on the paper so i dropped that idea and just slid the heatsink 1 way over and over again in the same direction. it was really easy this way to lap but what i want to know is if it is ok to lap the heatsink or cpu in thesame direction over and over again?

EXAMPLE: i place heatsink on grit paper, slide forward, pick it up, and place it down again and slide forward again doing this over and over again.

is this a ok way of lapping for both heatsink and cpu. my heatsink looks good but i want to make sure its ok to do it this way before i attempt to do it to my cpu.

im not really sure im confident of lapping my cpu to the brass so i think ive decided to just lap it till i cant see the info on the chip anymore. is that ok also?

oh, what is the best way of testing that the cpu and hsf is really flat? ive seen people talk about doing soemthing with paper but i dont understand what they are talking about. could someone tell me how to test for flatness in stupid form?
