This happens to me often. For no apparent reason, I will start getting the Select Hardware Profile Screen on boot up, although I only have the default profile. During the POST, and just before the screen comes up during boot, I get a rapid clicking from my speaker (the little one that beeps during POST). I have tried the "Wait 0 seconds before choosing this profile if one is not selected." The problem will usually go away after a few days. I have also tried system restore to correct it.
Anyone got any ideas?
