Hi!
Please take a look to my new AMD system build.
Suggestions and critics are welcome!

Motherboard: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4200+
Memory: OCZ XTC Platinum rev.2 DDR2-800 (2x512MB) / Buffalo Firestix DDR2-800 (2x512MB) / Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 (2x512MB or 2x1024MB)
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W
Video card: EVGA 7900GS KO
Cooling: Zalman 9700LED

P.S. Which memory modules to choose in the list above?

Thanks!

Cooling: Zalman 9700LED
my advice is to get smthg more effective, for example Tuniq Tower/Scythe Infinity/Enzotech Ultra X... and as for the videocard i'd prefer X1950GT 512 Mb.

Zalman is on par with those coolers.
Zalman 9700 is easy to install, silent, and runs just as cool.

No it's not. It's better than Infinity but loses to Tuniq and Ultra 120

It really depends on your environment.
I have both Tuniq and 9700 and they offer me different results.
Don't you get tired of convincing people based on web surfing information? :D

9700 isn't just as good as the Tuniq tower and Ultra 120. You can check other reviews too if you don't believe the one from Anandtech.

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130057
or if you are trying to get great value http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130092

I suggest the G.Skill if you want great support but the Wintec has a chance of being better chips

PSU: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5150GH&c=fr&pid=eb16147a050d061797dd84e84b991a5b0b01459f188c48 0f8d7e63fd6ac77e79
(enough for a R600 but not 8800GTX SLi)
and I agree with the CPU cooling

Why do I need to check reviews when I physically have them?
The Zalman is just as good and may be a little cheaper compared to a stock tuniq.

The word AMD does not appear in an Intel system build help thread...therefore I will not tolerate the word Intel to appear in an Amd system build help thread. Break that rule and i have some nice virtual masking tape for you.

nn_step's recommendation looks good, but i can't recommend anything till i have a tentative budget for your rig.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the X1950XT, nn. Newegg has a 320MB 8800GTS for $279, and $259 after MIR.

Also, the 3600+ is a good idea. They've been hitting 3GHz without much of an issue for many people lately.

nn's PSU recommendation looks good, or is that actually perkam's recommendation?

Oh, and as for CPU heatsink, don't waste your time on the Zalman 9700. First off, the heatpipes make very poor contact with the fins when compared to something like the new Enzotech heatsinks (http://www.petrastechshop.com/enulfocohehe.html) or the Scythe Infinity, Tuniq, Coolermaster GeminII, or the upcoming Thermalright monster. Secondly, when tested with comparable fans (Silverstone FN121), the Infinity vastly outperformed the 9700. Look for s1rrah's thread in air cooling if you don't believe me.

Ya I wouldn't get the X1950XT when the 8800GTS 320 is at such a good price. The GTS will run everything better than or at worst, on par with the X1950XT. Benches I have seen though show that the 320mb GTS's performance only really dips on large monitors with heavy AA enabled.

Are those MSI's that nn suggested good COer's?

The Enhance is a great PSU for the price. Keep in mind too that for about (a little more I think) the price of the 700watt GameXStream you could get something like the SS OP750.

I'll agree that the 8800 GTS 320 is a good pair with a 3600. Currently running two on this 3600 X2 system, and slowly walking her towards 3 GHz...

I get some issues with them and Oblivion at ultra quality and 1680x1050, but I think that's my display driver. It seems to keep failing for some reason...

I had the same problem at 1280x1024 with details maxed, and I'd get BSODs pointing to nv4disp.dll. Bleh. nVidia needs to improve current WinXP drivers as well as Vista's.

Excellent point, a budget would definitely give us more understanding of which direction we should take

I don't see a problem suggesting an intel chip - the OP did say suggestions were welcome - but I think it should be done in a polite manner, not the typical shove-it-down-your-throat "get intel!!!!" Now I didn't see the pre-edited posts of those two that I quoted so if it was a kind suggestion then this didn't apply to them.

Sorry for the off-topic, just felt like stating my opinion. Hope I didn't get myself in trouble........

@master89x, what is your budget? That'll help us help you :)

I'm honestly sick of hearing about C2D in every AMD thread. There is NOTHING wrong with an X2 3600+, especially since it offers a great performance/price point.

I have a similar setup, although my CPU isn't outdated like the K8.

Yeah I tought too that he was open to suggestions. Maybe he doesn't know that much about computers and didn't know the Core 2 Duo was on the market too? He didn't say AMD ONLY that he doesn't want a Intel rig, just that the rig was with a AMD cpu in the first post. If that's the case I'm happy to suggest some AMD based rig but without any budget I don't which parts would be good :)

SparkyJJO:
I have at about 600-700 euros.

How about getting two Crucial Ballistix sticks DDR2-800 (2x512MB)?.I've heard that they overclock like mad.
I wanted to get a X1950Pro but the budget is limiting me.
Overall as I can see from your replies I've made a good choice by selecting these components.

P.S.
Is there any stability issue in M2N32-SLI Deluxe? Is it possible to push X2 4200+ @ 3.0GHz in this board?
