ok im getting so irritated..

my motherboard is an intel badaxe2, and i have three SATA hard drives on it

Raptor 150gb - primary
2 x Seagate 7200.10 320gb (no RAID) - secondary

i want to add a final drive, which has a lot of data on (from my old computer), but this is an IDE seagate 7200.10 320gb

i have tried numerous ways to try to get my old information (thousands of songs/pics/vids) onto my new comp, but each one has been unsucessful

ive tried:
1) simply connection my old hard drive (without any jumpers) to both secondary and primary IDE ports on the IDE cable

it wasnt being recognised by my new computer, even though it is by my old one

2) tried looking for ways in bios - couldnt find anything like auto detect or anything

3) i ordered a hard drive caddie! (got it today, but it doesnt even recognise it)

the caddie is an Icy Box... usb2 only, IDE, and comes with an installation CD that i cant figure out because most of the drivers for it are for windows98

people have told me to go through Computer Management, but i dont want to erase all my data...

PLEASE HELP!!!

i cant see an option for importing a partition

also, would i need to do this when the IDE hard drive is connected internally?

with/without the jumper
also, should it be connected to the the master/secondary port on the IDE cable

thx for the reply

you do this when the drive is physically and electrically connected to the system

i guess that means internal, but i still dont know whether to leave the jumper out (as with my old IDE system), or to keep it on master (seeing as though it is the only IDE item in my new one)

try cable select, it works very well with modern hardware

Umm...Why don't you just put the old hd on the ide cable inside the case? Also the problem with the external enclosure could be that the enclosure doesn't support the hd (for example my enclosure doesn't work with Maxtor DM9 hd's).

+Put the jumper on hd to master when you connect it through the ide cable.

yay fixed it :D

file transfer is quite slow :o

anyway, i put the jumper on master, and used the secondary port on the ide cable (it didnt work on the master port!)

thx all ;D
