Will they work together?
I've heard mention of a patch but can't find anything further on this.
Running a 8 core rig so XP is out of the question.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, it will work just fine.
[ don't count on 3D Mark taking advantage of your...8 cores though :D ]

Thanks for the info guys!
I get this error message:
IDirect3D9::GetDeviceCaps Failed:Notavailable (D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE)
I'm using win2K3 server enterprise 64 bit with all updates done.

You have to do a couple of things to bench a server OS, enable full Hardware acceleration, verify D3D settings with dxdiag, and for approved driver status in all but 3DMark '01 you have to run in XP compatability mode.

I suppose dx9c december or later has been installed? And hardware acceleration enabled (default is disabled on 2k3 as far as I remember). Is ati tool cube, dxdiag or rthdribl working?

before I posted this thread I opened up DXDIAG and hardware acceleration was enabled. D3D verified, XP compatibility mode. That I did not do..
A setting in DXDIAG or set that somewhere else?

Basically ati tool cube or rthdribl is a quick way to check if 3D is working at all on your system as well as heat up your card :)

rthdribl

I think he meant to check properties of 3dmark executable and set XP from the compability tab

set to XP compatible, still the same issue.
Maybe this is a factor: I have a cheapo ATI X550 card in there now as the machine is basically a cruncher. I also have a BFG 8800GTS card that I'd drop in to try some 3DMark,etc..could it be the card itself just isn't up to snuff and thats why I'm getting this message?
Thanks again to all that have answered here.

So is Ati tool cube working?
If you have x550 try omega drivers, I never had problems with them :)

Let me toss on a pot of coffee(5:29am here) and I'll grab that ati tool cube and find out.. I assume thats at ATI's site?
Thanks again..Dave the 3D n00b

Do you have DirectX9 installed?

1) Download and install the latest DirectX 9 redistributable from Microsoft, click me (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4B1F5D0C-5E44-4864-93CD-464EF59DA050&displaylang=en)
2) Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot, and set the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full ( right ).
3) Start -> Run -> dxdiag
go to Display and make sure DirectDraw & Direct3D acceleration are both enabled.

It is hardware acceleration what I meant in my 2nd post :D

You cpu score is amazing, it equals approximately to quad core @ 4.5Ghz :eek:

If I remember right you was running pin mod fsb to 333 on your cpu and it was like 3Ghz or so?

Now put some 8800gtx inside :D

Thats at 3157mhz on air. I can get up to app 3271 for short benches but this am I just turned off WCG and ran 3DMark06 at the 24/7 full load speed.
Yes, these are X5350's BSEL modded to 333 and on stock volts.
Imagine using 2 LN2 pots on 4K$ hardware :banana:
ahh, I have a swiftech H20-220 kit sitting here thats going in when 2 more pieces arrive. Then I'll try to see what I can crank this beast up to and toss in the 8800GTS and run 3DMark06 again.
Hopefully with a little better score.;)
Thanks again guys, I mean that..Muchas appreciated for the help.
