I was wondering if anyone is using 4GB or more of 1000Mhz+ memory with the 680i chipset?
There was a statement by Corsairs forum mod that once you get to 4GB the board can only run the RAM at DDR2 800 speeds.
I sure hope this is not true because I am running with 2GB of Corsair Dominator series PC8888, that runs at 1111Mhz and CAS4, and have 2GB more scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

Well i can't say anything for high speed ram, but I can barely overclock my OCZ Platinum XTC PC6400 (4-4-4-15) with 4 G
I can get to 850mhz and that'sit.

I've tested 4 x 1GB ram modules on my ABIT IN9 X32-MAX mobo.....Cas 3-3-3-4 at 1:1 Linked and 415MHz (830MHz DDR) and Cas 4-3-3-4 at 600MHz (1200MHz DDR) Unlinked....Subtimings were TIGHT as well....
They were 2 x 1GB Team Group 1200 and 2 x CellShock 1000C4....All of them with the Micron GKX chips......It was fast BUT NOT faster than 2 x 1GB..... ;)
Also my WindowsXP SP2 Pro, "recognised" 3.25GB of ram.....I think that you must go to Vista 64 to play with them all......:)

See my sig - runs great and I've not really even tried to OC my RAM yet.

Thanks for the replys, I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, but am waiting for my replacement RAM from Corsair, so I won't know if mine will handle all 4GB until they finally get them to me.

Post your results when you get them, this should be very useful to a lot of people as 4GB RAM is slowly starting to gain popularity and the 680i already very common.

I've tested ( just for fun, a quick and short test ) running 4*1GB sticks on Asus Striker Extreme some days ago.
Successfully run Windows XP x64 ( fully stable ) at DDR2-1200 4-4-4-12 and moderate-to-tight sub-timings ( didn't test more ) with two kits, a Corsair Dominator 9136C5D & a SuperTalent DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15.
The SuperTalent kit is using D9GKX, as for the Corsair kit I don't know because I didn't open the heatspreaders yet ( should be D9GKX / D9GMH )

I'm having trouble running my memory @ high speeds !
I have the eVGA 680i , along with 4GB of Dominator's 9136
The highest I can do is 1066Mhz with 4 sticks !

I can easily do 1200Mhz with two sticks but not with 4.....
Though I haven't tried giving it extra volts...the max that I've taken them to is 2.1v !

This issues been bothering me too...

With 4 sticks you'll need more voltage ( compared to what you have to apply when using 2 sticks ).

I've seen comments specifically on the corsair PC8888 memory and problems with more than 2 sticks but nothing scientific to back them up. Personally I'm running 4 sticks of Corsair PC8500 memory on my Striker Extreme board at native speed (1066) 5-5-5-15 at 2.0v no problems. I have not had any time to do any push testing (in the middle of a slide-scanning project right now).

Nope , I tried upping the Voltage on my memory to 2.35v from 2.1 and I still had no luck over 1066 !
It can do 1088Mhz but its not stable...

Well do to the fact that no one can seem to run at the rated speeds, I RMA'ed all 4 GB's and am dropping down to 4GB DDR2 800, gonna get a Mountain Mod case with my refunded money.

Got OCZ 8500 SLI memory @ 1066Mhz @ 2.1 volts. 4x1GB configuration. Stable.

I have had mine with Corsair 8500s up to 1200Mhz with no issues, though I volted up to 2.20.

BIG WARNING THOUGH!!!: There is an issue with degradation and death of the memory if you overvolt it past 2.4. Look at the EVGA community boards on the 680i forum. There is a sticky about the memory issue from nVidia.

BTW, running it linked and synced will allow you to actually gain some overall speed even with the memory running at the 800-900 Mhz range. Cr4ptacularone had a message with a link on that with some good data about the cost/benefit analysis of high speed memory. Makes me wish I would have gotten lower speed memory and put the money into something else.

Standard EPP setting of 2.3 volts was messing with my ram. 2.1 works fine.

Eva had very good results with 4gb on a striker extreme. I believe he at least reached ddr 1000.

I have taken my BallistiX PC6400 4GB(D9GMH)
This board love(D9GMH)

To @1200 5.5.5.15 2.22v(memtest86+ and superpi 32 stable)

Beaware of the volt problem 2.4v can kill memory very fast.
Problem that it will easy pass memtest at high volt,
but system will be unstable.

Some more on volt to memory in my little faq.

yeah x64 should be the standard imo as more and more apps eat more RAM ... and even Vista itself ... compare to XP im sure

I agree. I don't think you will ever see another 32 bit OS from Microsoft after Vista. Just no reason to split OS code trees and have to develop duplicate drivers. Needs to be just 64 bit path going forward.

they ened better 64 driver then , cuz the nv x64 drivers s r buggy, kunaak had problem starting STALKER on Vista

it s a bad pair high mem and 680i

look at other parts of the forum

it seems high voltage degrade very quickly memory

Kunaak aside, theteamaqua is right. The third party drivers should have been 95% done on BOTH platforms by release date. 64 bit drivers are much tighter, but this is frustrating and inexcusable. (Nope, Microsoft does NOT get off on this either, as even their own fingerprint reader does not have drivers for Vista, on either platform.)

This is what is driving so many of us to dual boot or just say "screw it" and go back to XP, or go Mac and run a virtual session. Dang shame too. I am really, REALLY trying to justify why I need the x64 abuse.

Due to the degradation issues, I ended up switching to 4X2GB of PC6400 G.Skill CAS 5. All 8GB is running like a champ at 1.9V. I can not believe how much more stable my computer is running now that I got rid of the high volatage Dominators.
