So, I have been doing lots of reading refreshing my knowledge on watercooling and have asked opinions on some other boards and I figured I would see what the final verdict from the members of XS is. It's been a while since I built a loop, my last one was totally custom DIY with the homemade block, Home Hardware tubing, 120V pump and random heatercore. Now that I have moved up a little in the world, I can afford to spend some money on real gear now.

I'm looking to build about the best loop I can for ~$250CDN (through NCIX). I only want to cool my CPU, though the ability to have future expansion is nice.

Currently, the parts sitting in my cart are as follows:

Apogee GT.
MCP655
Clearflex 60 Tubing 1/2IN ID 7/8IN
Danger Den Dual Heater with Shroud for Dual 120MM Fans 1/2IN Fittings

I have selected the GT over the GTX because the GTX doesn't come with mounting hardware for other CPU types other than LGA775, I would likely be switching my loop from rig to rig with somewhat regularity so the ability to use multiple sockets is big to me. It also seems to perform roughly the same as the GT.

The biggest thing I am concerned with is the Rad/Heatercore, I have people telling me to get both, yet no one is giving me a reason to. I have been suggested the Danger Den as well as MCR... I'm having a hard time figuring out which to go with. I would like some suggestions or a possible replacement... what would you change, and most importantly, why would you change it?

The swiftech dual rad QP version is an excellent chouce and value @ around $55 ... it performs well with low cfm fans (less noise) comes with 1/2" barbs (if you dont buy it from the egg) and it has mound for up to (4) 120mm fans...

AGREED!

Dont get the DD heatercore.. the shrod for it sucks really bad and it will only really perform well with higher CFM fans. It will do alright with low cfm fans but it was not in any way shape or form designed for lower cfm.

jmilcher, I have a concern. On NCIX, they make no mention about 1/2IN barbs at all, they only thing they say on it is 3/8" NPT ports. A member in the forum messages goes on to say that they have to be purchased seperate. Is this what I want:

"Fitting Swiftech 1/2IN Delrin Barb to 3/8IN NPT (Set of 2)"

Okay first of all its not delrin lol.
MCR220s have switched to a different threading, and you might get one that isn't tapped to 3/8" NPT, so be careful.
MCR220 is a great rad, the barbs thing might be a little annoying. And that clearflex tubing is REAL fat, how about try some thinner walled tubes, like 3/4" OD?
Oh can I see a pic of your DIY block?

I just copied it word for word off of the NCIX site, I'm not even sure what it is supposed to say. Is it so fat that it would cause problems? I'm not going to be running a lot of tubes, just one block for the time being so I don't see it getting in the way of other things. If you have been overclocking long enough to remember when the 'pop-can block' was enough to cool a CPU, then you will have a pretty good idea of what it looks like :D. I'm quite sure I don't have any pictures of it but it might even still be sitting somewhere in my parents basement.

MCR is one of the skinnier rads, no worries ;)
