Regarding Petra's techshop

Even after randomly commenting about them in random threads, I really feel its necessary to point out how awesome Petra's Tech Shop is. After helping me and my clients so much, I really feel as if I need to give credit where it's due.

Every time I place an order, it's shipped out the next day. The orders have always been 100% correct and are superbly packaged. The handwritten notes are a classy touch as well.

Anytime I had a question or ran into some strange problems on my end, Quoc was always ready to help in the most curteous manner possible. All my emails were responded to within a few hours. Their method of customer service encourages you to come back again, without any hesitations or fear of "bothering" them. When talking with them, you feel as if they're sincerely trying to help you out rather than either disregarding your inquiries or trying to up sell you for more expensive or more stuff that'd be useless to you.

Just letting all of you out there that are considering purchasing a watercooling setup to check out their shop. I remember a time when I used to browse these forums anonymously while researching. Hopefully this bit of advice will help all you would be WC'ers!

Haha, I wasn't around in December. I figured I'd give them their due since I haven't seen a thread about them and wish I did. Luckily I only had to make one purchase at Performance-PC before I found them. I only go elsewhere now when they don't carry an item I'm looking for.

Unfortunately my finances have yet to allow me to go water, but when I do most of the stuff is coming from PTS, no doubt about that. If I can't get water anytime soon I may order a new air cooler from PTS (mine's bearings are going bad after only 1 year, can't replace the fan too easily either, grrr proprietary stuff).

I worked in retail for years. Either you like it or you hate it.
There's a satisfaction in sending some clueless guy home with what you KNOW are the right parts for what he wants to do.
A lot of my friends are people I met as customers.
When I was in retail I used to teach the kids to treat the customers as your friend and you'll never be far off.
I get the feeling that the people at Petra's are these type of people.

Except they're more expensive than literally every other net retailer except maybe Frozen CPU. Call me spoiled by Petras, but I don't appreciate 3 word sentences and 2 sentence emails when I have questions regarding an item or problems with my order. Not to mention after hearing about so many people having problems with the Fluid EXP and having all of you guys tell me to return it (and hearing the same thing on the Hard forums and extremeOC), I asked for an RMA. Basically got called a liar and he stands by his product. ("Best stuff available"). In any case, I only use them when I absolutely can't find it on Petra's or if they're out of stock.

I don't mind giving my money to guys whom I can imagine myself having a beer with rather than some company hell bent on turning a profit (customer be damned!) and trying to upsell me at every corner.

It really comes down to service. Obviously, PTS is a business and has to make a profit to stay that way but they do it in such a way that you feel good spending money with them. :eek:

Aren't PTS' prices better by a bit? Their prices are pretty damn low, the only retailer that sells stuff cheaper is jab-tech, and its usually only by a few cents.

i also want to add that QUOC actually sent me a brand new mounting kid for my d-tek when I lost 2 washers..

I opted to pay for shipping but he sed it was fine and that he would head to the PO to drop it off. He even got DC# and emailed the tracking to me

I agree with everyone in here. Petra's tech shop really is what XS community (actually all Overclocking\Watercooling etc... community) needs. A shop that, like some1 said above, take care of each and all of there customers like if they were friends and that you know just by what you could read on such threads, that you can trust them.

I am sure that Quoc and Alex look at these threads\replys and feel proud and that would be just normal! Because you guys really make an awesome job and im sure ever1 posting in such threads appreciate that! Be proud guys!

I owe a lot to both Alex and Quoc. They've saved me a lot of time and $$$ with their valuable advice on many occassions. If it weren't for these gurus, I'd have a messed up WC system....ie. dust filters (which prevent good air flow on the radiator), soaking my Rad in vinegar for long time periods vs. hot water, using FluidXP, buying a Thermaltake kit, etc...

I thank them for preventing me from making these noob mistakes....Each visit to their shop for will-call pickups was an intellectual treat!

I believe the pens come when they couldn't fulfill a part of your order due to stock limitations. Or it could be just some sort of random candy they sprinkle in!

Either way, small touches like that are what keep me coming back. Missing a barb? No problem, they'll send it to you that very day. Their policy in getting you what you need is similar to Swiftech's but their customer service is just unparalleled.

Here's hoping they stop by more often to shoot the :banana::banana::banana::banana:.

International customers don't always get pens because we've had issues with customs officials stealing them (along with our notes), so we've been sending fewer of them out. :shakes:

Side note: anyone who has sent me a PM over the past few days, don't worry, I'm getting there (hopefully I'll have time to get to them today)... and, as an additional note, I'll be out of the office tomorrow--please be nice to Quoc while I'm gone ;)

I wish that this area was filled with some thing custom made that could cool down a knetsfield ;) instead of the ineffeciant VChill LS's, But I know and many here (I think) agree that custom made Vapor's is a risky buisness. Unless it's distributed by Petra's shop which we trust.

I placed an order for delivery to Melbourne, Australia. Emailed my parts list, rang this morning, talked to Quoc, confirmed what I was after, he emailed me later same day with the confirmed pricing and shipping costs, payed into their PayPal account, rang Quoc again, he confirmed payment had gone thru. Quoc had already packed by components into a box earlier in the day so stock would not run out. Will be shipped out tomorrow. All done in one day....

I check Petra's first everytime I need something. The only reason I go anywhere else is when they simply don't have it. I can't say enough good things about them :), just plain the best.

My only reason for going outside of Petras is for rads. I hope they start stocking the full line of Thermochill equipment and accessories soon. A little more depth on the fan selection and then I'd have no reason to go to other places like performance-pcs or jab-tech.

As I recall, Swiftech usually directs people to return things through whomever they purchased them from. Either way, I tend to test pumps more thoroughly than they do.

I think a toast is in order for Quoc! :toast: I gave him my best noob questions on Friday, pestered him today, got all the answers I needed, AND HE STILL PACKED AND SHIPPED MY ORDER TODAY, while handling other calls!! :woot:

We had about 12 seconds to talk when I heard the phone ringing. I knew from Friday that they were out of Radboxes for the kit I wanted. I didn't want a Radbox anyway since I built a custom external rad-holder over the weekend. My first noob question was about the merits of a reservoir. He suggested to throw in the Swiftech micro instead of the Radbox. I gave him a good Viking YAAP. The order was done. Low and behold, the order shipped with tracking info this afternoon. :banana:

What's even better, I hooked up with a local "addict" here, at xtreme, to help me on my first WC build. :slap: (he's on the left, I'm on the right!)

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am now the proud owner of a Petra's Tech Pen!!! :D I placed an order recently and in the comments section of the order form, I demanded they send me a pen. :P Also, Petra's must have some magic mojo when it comes to shipping. Previously, the quickest company to get anything out here to me in the Middle East has been Newegg. I've gotten stuff from them in just under a week. Petra's just took the crown. I placed an order with them that was shipped out on the 6th, and it was in my hands on the 11th, 5 days total from San Jose to New York, to me here in Kuwait. To top it off, I just ordered another 2gb of G.Skill from Newegg a few days before my Petra's order, and it still hasn't gotten here! Simply amazing. This is why Petra's rocks! The only thing I can think of is that the mail people knew there was a Petra's pen in the box, so they treated it like a kidney. :)

I kept hearing from Levi here what good people they were to deal with.
The part I ordered I could have grabbed for $9.00 less.

I started shopping at Petra's only barely a month ago. I regret not having found them sooner. I've spent close to a grand and I'd have spent more if their selection included some rare odds and ends that don't sell too well that I had fulfilled at performance-pcs.com.

Part of what makes it so appealing to shop at Petras isn't just due to their awesome attitudes towards taking care of their customers. I absolutely admire how Alex remains active within the community, especially these boards. Not only is he a businessman but an enthusiast as well. I look forward to his posts, (same with Cathar's and Marci's). It makes it much easier for me to purchase from Petra's when I know that they know what they're talking about since they enjoy the same things I do.

I don't get to talk to Alex much, but I enjoy all of his posts on these boards. Quoc is great over the phone. He's always taken care of me no matter how small or big the problem is. From RMA, to same day shipping requests, to special orders, or missing items, Quoc takes care of me without rushing me. Quoc gives me the tips on when shipments are coming in addition to a bunch of other little things that I appreciate. I'm seriously gonna buy the two guys a beer the next time I come up to SJ (I'm down in the OC).

If I ever open a business in the future (who knows if Law School is going to pan out), I'll for sure model the way I interact with customers the way Petras does.

Another great company I've recently had the pleasure of dealing with is Jab-tech. I made the mistake of not ordering a pair of EK Delrin 8800 blocks from Petra's before they sold out, and Jab-tech got theirs in stock around the next day. I placed the order with Jab-tech and they emailed me on a SUNDAY because they had some issues verifying my CC billing address with my CC company. As soon as it was straightened out, I received a shipping notification first thing Monday morning. Jab-tech seems to have awesome customer service as well, but Alex and Quoc have a bit of an edge in that we know they are enthusiasts just like us. Petra's almost makes you feel like you're just buying something from your friend. That level of personal attention to detail is extremely rare these days.

Quoc has been excellent on both occasions, delivery has been swift, unlike PPC's, slow, and no response to my email re missing G80 kits in my MCW60 order (this time I provided 3 emails, no response, go figure).

Anywho, second time around I got TWO, count 'em, two pens - LOL

yea me too...just bought stuff first time from PTS this month and DD as well. Petra's items were here a day earlier than DD. Just ordered more new stuff last Wed and it got here Fri...still waiting for DD snail mail delivery (should be here tomorrow).
Calls to Petra's and convo's with Quoc were pleasant...I really appreciate it when tech support and ordering is all about the customer and I gotta say..

Alex, that Quoc is a great guy! you got a serious keeper there! He does you great honor working for you and guys like him are few and far between.

As far as Petra's business; no questions asked, no beating around the bush...they took care of my failing DDC-2 and sent it out priority mail the same day along with some other freebies they had laying around I had mentioned interest in. I even payed a few dollars more for items there because of their service even tho I could have likely gotten a price match. It's not stated, but they can usually ship items out up to 6 or 7 pm PST and it's likely your order will ship the same day.

Outstanding service that deserves an outstanding ovation. And the products they sell are the best in the industry.

Grrrr, well I live 50 miles from the NewEgg.com NJ warehouse, and usually get items 1-2 day though I pay for ground shipping ;-). Saves $$$$$

I have only ordered once from PTS but the service was exceptional. Quoc went over my ordered and actually made some suggestions that he thought would improve my order for a very similar price.

I ended up ordering a MCR320 and 3 Yate Loon fans. Even with the shipping cost that was about 1/3 of the total order cost, it still ended up being about AU$50 cheaper than buying it in Aus.

All this and the fact that the order arrived within 4 days was amazing, thats quicker than some retailers in Aus :S


If you lived near me Quoc, i would you a beer or a kangaroo :toast:

Hey now, my handwriting is pretty spiffy... in a strange sort of way. ;) Then again, Quoc packs the vast majority of the orders so you aren't very likely to encounter my writing (anyone familiar with the type of black ink used in the Pilot G-2 pen will be able to spot my writing real quick, though).

As a random side note, I haven't had a chance to get to my e-mails yet today and it's already 9:00pm... so, please be patient. Thanks :)
