what can i do to cool the southbridge. im putting water on the north, but is there a water addapter that can fit on the south if youre running sli? or is there a fan of some sorts? anythng I can do to help cool it is appreciated. I see on the evga site they offer a fan for it but the shipping costs more than the bleeping fan does. and I have a feelign the fan really isnt that great. I have a case fan that would blow on it but I was looking for more.

thanks for any tips or info

my sli is 2 x 7900 gto but in case i run a 88 or 89 or something in the future id liek that to fit as well.

thanks

you can use a waterblock on it if you want. the SB is nothing compared to the NB to worry about. try doing a search in this forum there's been too many asking that question over and over.

ive read the posts and they completely contradict each other. I want to cool the southbridge and im asking how to do it in a way that will fit on my motherboard.

most waterblocks are not going to work in a sli setup that and I wish to use the pci slot in between for my sound card so theres not many options. i just want to know what they are.

You can use either a Swiftech MCW30 chipset cooler for your SB. An EK NF4 will also work as well.

For the people that don't own 680i's, they'll keep trying to convince you that SB's don't get that hot. Ignore them. 680i's have SB's that get just as hot, if not hotter than the NB's.

I've found that the EK Wave chipset block works. I use one from an old build that fit the NF4 chipset on my DFI Expert board. The 8800GTX just clears it on my EVGA 680i mobo. Now the SB never sees more than 24c idleand 30c loade and hard benching.

how are you getting your temps for the SB?

edit: I have an extra mcw30 that I've been thinking of using.

ok thanks. i just hate it when you ask a simple question and instead of giving you an answer people give you reasons why you shouldnt be asking the question. I can see if it is a stupid question but I think what I was wondering was quite legitimate. If you cool the north and south bridges on the same loop as the cpu I dont see how this is possibly going to affect things in a bad way for instance pressure or anything negatively. the only thing that could possiby be the outcome is lower temperatures. I also hate it when people cant afford to do certain things so they act negatively towards those who can. when someone asks a question either answer the question or just dont post on the forum. no one wants to read your negative posts. not unless its constructive criticism which I would hope any intelligent person would want.

Will the mcw30 fit even if im using the middle pci slot for my soundcard?

Check the egg for a few other S fan choices, most of which are cheaper than the one offered by eVGA

Well don't tell mine that, it seems to think it spends all day at 35C.

heh no offense man, but you seem to be the only person i can find with a cool MCP. Literally everyone else's is hot.Youre the one with the HR05 SLi right? Dont you have decent airflow right up there?

Anyway, EK wave fits. MCW30 fits too. Just dremel the screws in half. I posted some pics a while back; check my post history.

I know, I just get tired of the fud being spread around. With a decent cooler and airflow it really doesn't get that hot. It's not like I did something special to mine, just stuck an HR-05 on it and stuffed it into a case.

Hence you had to modify it with a non stock heatsink/cooler. Stock temps are ridiculous. The only FUD that's being spread is coming from since you're claiming great temps but failed to initially mention that you had a non stock cooler on it.

EVGA's forum has had a large amount of users complaining about their SB temps. It's not a made up problem. I have the board. I love the board. The SB high temps don't really affect performance nor stability that much as the NB. For some of us, high temps are just uncomfortable and hence the desire to cool it.

They do get quite hot. I tried putting an NC-07 on NB/SB after reading several reviews that showed it outperformed the HR05. The NB was fine passive, but the SB was hotter than hell, and far hotter than with the stock pipe. I took it off the next day. Don't know if SLI is the cause, but that SB heats up something fierce. My BIOS temps on the stock were about 51c idle and on the NC-07 were 67c idle. Once I put a fan on the NC-07 it dropped down to about 50c, but there isn't any room there for a fan. You pretty much have to go with water or leave the stock on, or at least find a sink and fan that will fit in that tiny little space.

Notice that evga's new board on the front page shows two fans and two separate coolers. Guess they go smart and figured lots of enthusiasts were going with water on the NB. I ordered one there fans for the SB, but I don't imagine it can cool that well considering how small it is.
